[Machine] He heard Ali ibn Abi Talib saying that the Messenger of Allah prohibited me from wearing gold and wearing silk and wearing yellow clothes and reading the Quran while I am in prostration. So the Messenger of Allah dressed me with a green garment, so I went out wearing it. He said, "O Ali, I did not dress you with it to wear it." He said, "So I returned and I tore it apart and then I threw it to Fatimah and said, 'Wear it and let your wives wear it as well.'" And so.

البيهقي:٤٢١٣ – أَنْبَأَهُ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الْحَارِثِيُّ ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حُنَيْنٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ يَقُولُ نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ تَخَتُّمِ الذَّهَبِ وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْقَسِّيِّ وَالْمُعَصْفَرِ وَعَنْ قِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ وَأَنَا سَاجِدٌ قَالَ فَكَسَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حُلَّةً سِيَرَاءَ فَخَرَجْتُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ يَا عَلِيُّ لَمْ أَكْسُكَهَا؛ لِتَلْبَسَهَا قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَشَقَقْتُهَا ثُمَّ طَرَحْتُهَا إِلَى فَاطِمَةَ فَقُلْتُ الْبَسِي وَاكْسِي نِسَاءَكِ وَكَذَلِكَ

I heard ʿAli bin Abi Talib ؓ say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade me, but I do not say that he forbade you, to wear gold rings, to wear garments made of a blend of linen and silk or garments dyed with safflower, and to recite Qurʿan whilst bowing. He gave me a suit of pure silk and I went out wearing it, and he said: ʿO ‘Ali, I did not give it to you to wear it.” So I went back to Fatimah ؓ and gave it to her to hold an edge of it, so she took hold of it to fold it with me, but I tore it in two. She said: May your hands be rubbed with dust, O son of Abu Talib! What have you done? I said to her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade me to wear it. Wear it and give it to your womenfolk.

"عَنْ عَلِىٍّ قَالَ. نَهَانِى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ خَاتَمِ الذَّهَبِ، وَلبُوس القِسِىِّ والمُعَصْفَرِ وَقِرَاءَةِ الْقُرآنِ وَأَنَا رَاكِعٌ، وَكَسَانِى حُلَّةً مِن سيَراء فَخَرَجْتُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ لِى: يا عَلِىُّ! لَم أَكْسُكَهَا لَتِلْبَسَهَا فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى فاطِمَةَ فَأعطَيْتُهَا طَرَفَهَا كَأَنَّهَا تَطْوِى مَعِى فَشَقَقْتُهَا فَقَالَتْ: تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكَ يا بْنَ أَبِى طَالِبٍ مَاذا جِئتَ بِهِ؟ قُلْتُ: نَهَانِى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ أَلْبِسَهَا فَالْبسِيهَا، وَاكْس نَساءَكِ".
