[Machine] When this verse was revealed: "...and to draw forth their headcoverings over their bosoms" [Quran 24:31], the women of the Ansar took their aprons and tore them from the sides to cover themselves with it.
لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَى جُيُوبِهِنَّ} [النور 31] أَخَذَ نِسَاءُ الْأَنْصَارِ أُزُرَهُنَّ فَشَقَقْنَهُ مِنْ نَحْوَ الْحَوَاشِي فَاخْتَمَرْنَ بِهِ
ʿAisha used to say: "When (the Verse): "They should draw their veils over their necks and bosoms," was revealed, (the ladies) cut their waist sheets at the edges and covered their heads and faces with those cut pieces of cloth."
أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ ؓ كَانَتْ تَقُولُ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ {وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَى جُيُوبِهِنَّ} أَخَذْنَ أُزْرَهُنَّ فَشَقَّقْنَهَا مِنْ قِبَلِ الْحَوَاشِي فَاخْتَمَرْنَ بِهَا
[Machine] Aisha used to say when this verse was revealed, "Women took their waist-sheets, cut them at the edges and covered their faces with them."
أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ كَانَتْ تَقُولُ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَى جُيُوبِهِنَّ} [النور 31] «أَخَذَ النِّسَاءُ أُزُرَهُنَّ فَشَقَّقْنَهَا مِنْ قِبَلِ الْحَوَاشِي فَاخْتَمَرْنَ بِهَا»
[Machine] "When this verse was revealed, 'And tell the believing women to reduce their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which appears thereof...' [Quran 24:31], the women of the Ansar (helpers) took their waist wrappers and tore them from the edges and covered their faces with them."
