[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a brother from the Ansar to lead them to Khaibar, so he brought dates in a bag. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Is it the case that the people of Khaibar eat such dates?" He said, "No, By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we buy a Sa'a with two Sa'a from Al-Jam'." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not do that, but sell this and buy with its price from that." And that is how the scale works.  

البيهقي:١٠٥١٨ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَا ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ بْنِ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ وَأَبَا سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَاهُ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ أَخَا بَنِي عَدِيٍّ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ فَاسْتَعْمَلَهُ عَلَى خَيْبَرَ فَقَدِمَ بِتَمْرٍ جَنِيبٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَكُلُّ تَمْرِ خَيْبَرَ هَكَذَا؟ قَالَ لَا وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا نَشْتَرِي الصَّاعَ بِالصَّاعَيْنِ مِنَ الْجَمْعِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا تَفْعَلُوا وَلَكِنْ مِثْلًا بِمِثْلٍ أَوْ تَبِيعُوا هَذَا وَاشْتَرُوا بِثَمَنِهِ مِنْ هَذَا وَكَذَلِكَ الْمِيزَانُ  

رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنِ الْقَعْنَبِيِّ وَرَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ وَأَخْرَجَاهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ دُونَ قَوْلِهِ وَكَذَلِكَ الْمِيزَانُ وَرَوَاهُ قَتَادَةُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ دُونَ هَذِهِ اللَّفْظَةِ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent the brother of the tribe of Bani Adi Al-Ansari as governor of Khaibar. Then the man returned, bringing Janib (a good kind of date). Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Are all the dates of Khaibar like that?" He replied, "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! We take one Sa' of these (good) dates for two Sas of mixed dates." Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Do not do so. You should either take one Sa of this (kind) for one Sa' of the other; or sell one kind and then buy with its price the other kind (of dates), and you should do the same in weighing."

Are all the dates of Khaibar like this? He said: Messenger of Allah, it is not so. We buy one sa' of (fine quality of dates) for two sa's out of total output (including even the inferior quality of dates), whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Don't do that, but like for like, or sell this (the inferior quality and receive the price) and then buy with the price of that, and that would make up the measure.  

مسلم:١٥٩٣a – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ بِلاَلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ بْنِ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ وَأَبَا سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَاهُ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abd al-Hamid ibn Suhayl ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Awf from Said ibn al-Musayyab from Abu Said al- Khudri and from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed a man as an agent in Khaybar, and he brought him some excellent dates. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Are all the dates of Khaybar like this?" He said,"No. By Allah, Messenger of Allah! We take a sa of this kind for two sa or two sa for three." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not do that. Sell the assorted ones for dirhams and then buy the good ones with the dirhams."  

مالك:٣١-٢٢ – وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ اسْتَعْمَلَ رَجُلاً عَلَى خَيْبَرَ فَجَاءَهُ بِتَمْرٍ جَنِيبٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَكُلُّ تَمْرِ خَيْبَرَ هَكَذَا فَقَالَ لاَ وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا لَنَأْخُذُ الصَّاعَ مِنْ هَذَا بِالصَّاعَيْنِ وَالصَّاعَيْنِ بِالثَّلاَثَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَفْعَلْ بِعِ الْجَمْعَ بِالدَّرَاهِمِ ثُمَّ ابْتَعْ بِالدَّرَاهِمِ جَنِيبًا
