[Machine] He is called Al-Wahṭ and he is a young man from the Quraysh tribe who is fond of drinking wine. So I said to him, "Tell me something about you, that whoever drinks a sip of wine, Allah will not accept his repentance for forty mornings, and that the wretched one is the one who is wretched in his mother's womb, and that whoever comes to the Holy House (Al-Masjid al-Aqsa) should only perform prayer there, then he will be relieved of his sins like the day he was born. When the young man heard the mention of wine, he pulled his hand away from mine, then he walked away. Then Abdullah bin Amr said, "I do not permit anyone to say about me what I did not say. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever drinks wine, a sip of it will not be accepted for him as prayer for forty mornings. If he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he goes back to it, prayer will not be accepted for him for forty mornings. If he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he goes back to it, then I do not know whether it is in the third or fourth (instance), but if he goes back again, it is the right of Allah to make him drink from the scum of the Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection. And I also heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Verily, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, created His creation in darkness, then He cast upon them His light on that day. So whoever received from His light on that day, was guided, and whoever missed it, then he went astray. Therefore, I say, may the pen be dry on the knowledge of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime.' And I also heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Indeed, Sulaiman bin Dawud ﷺ asked Allah for three things, and Allah granted him two of them, and we hope that the third is for him. He asked Him for a judgment that corresponds to his judgment and Allah gave it to him. He asked Him for a kingdom that no one would deserve after him, and Allah gave it to him. And he asked Him that any man who goes out of his house, seeking nothing but to pray in this mosque, will be relieved of his sins like the day he was born. And we hope that Allah has given it to him."

[Machine] Al-Awza'i praised and the wording of this hadith is from Abu al-Abbas who said: Rabia bin Yazid and Yahya bin Abi 'Amr al-Saybani narrated to me, they said: 'Abdullah bin Firoz al-Daylami narrated to me, he said: I entered upon Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As while he was in a wall in Taif called al-Wahat and he was lecturing a young man from the Quraysh. And this young man would indulge in drinking wine.

So I said to Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As, "Tell me something about you that I can narrate from you about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "Whoever drinks wine, his repentance will not be accepted for forty mornings." The young man clenched his hand with the hand of Abdullah, then he turned away. Abdullah said: "Indeed, a miserable person is the one who is miserable in his mother's womb. And whoever leaves his house intending only to pray in al-Masjid al-Haram, he will come out of his sin like the day his mother gave birth to him."

Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As said: "O Allah! I will not permit anyone to attribute to me what I did not say. Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Whoever drinks wine, his repentance will not be accepted for forty mornings. But if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. But if he returns to it, his repentance will not be accepted for forty mornings.' I do not remember if it was on the third or fourth time that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Then it is a right upon Allah to make him drink from the mud of the Kohl on the Day of Resurrection.'"

He said: "I also heard the Prophet ﷺ say: 'Indeed, Allah created His creation in darkness and then He cast upon them some of His light. So whoever receives some of that light on that day, then he has been guided. And whoever is misguided, then it is because of that.' So I say: The pen has dried upon the knowledge of Allah."

And I also heard the Prophet ﷺ say: 'Indeed, Sulaiman bin Dawud asked his Lord three times, so He gave him two and we hope that He gave him the third. He asked Him for a judgment that aligns with his judgment, so He gave it to him. And he asked Him for a kingdom that none after him should have, so He gave it to him. And he asked Him that whenever a man leaves his house and intends only to pray in this mosque, he should come out of his sin like the day his mother gave birth to him. We hope that Allah has given him that.' Al-Awza'i said: Rabia bin Yazid narrated this hadith to me between al-Miqsilat and al-Jasa'ir.
