The Prophet ﷺ said: How will you do when that time will come? Or he said: A time will soon come when the people are sifted and only dregs of mankind survive and their covenants and guarantees have been impaired and they have disagreed among themselves and become thus, interwining his fingers. They asked: What do you order us to do, Messenger of Allah? He replied: Accept what you approve, abandon what you disapprove, attend to your own affairs and leave alone the affairs of the generality. Abu dawud said: A similar tradition has been transmitted by 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr from the Prophet ﷺ through different chain.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ كَيْفَ بِكُمْ وَبِزَمَانٍ أَوْ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ زَمَانٌ يُغَرْبَلُ النَّاسُ فِيهِ غَرْبَلَةً تَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا فَكَانُوا هَكَذَا وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ فَقَالُوا وَكَيْفَ بِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَذَرُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى أَمْرِ خَاصَّتِكُمْ وَتَذَرُونَ أَمْرَ عَامَّتِكُمْ

“How will you be at a time that will soon come, when the good people will pass away and only the worst ones will be left, who will break their promises and betray their trusts, and they will differ while they were previously together like this,” – and he interlaced his fingers. They said: “What should we do, O Messenger of Allah, when that comes to pass?” He said: “Follow that which you know is true, and leave that which you dislike. Take care of your own affairs and turn away from the common folk.”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ كَيْفَ بِكُمْ وَبِزَمَانٍ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ يُغَرْبَلُ النَّاسُ فِيهِ غَرْبَلَةً وَتَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ فَاخْتَلَفُوا وَكَانُوا هَكَذَا وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالُوا كَيْفَ بِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ تَأْخُذُونَ بِمَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَدَعُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى خَاصَّتِكُمْ وَتَذَرُونَ أَمْرَ عَوَامِّكُمْ

[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ , that he said: A time will come upon people where they will go through a period of tribulation, in which only the refuse of them will remain. Their promises and trusts will be violated, and they will differ among themselves. They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the way out from this?" He said, "You shall hold onto what you know and renounce what you deny. You shall concern yourselves with your own affairs and leave the affairs of the public."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَأْتِي عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌيُغَرْبَلُونَ فِيهِ غَرْبَلَةً يَبْقَى مِنْهُمْ حُثَالَةٌ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا فَكَانُوا هَكَذَا وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَمَا الْمَخْرَجُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَدَعُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى أَمْرِ خَاصَّتِكُمْ وَتَدَعُونَ أَمْرَ عَامَّتِكُمْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The people will soon be sifted like barley, and only the refuse will remain from among the people, as their covenants and trusts have been violated. They will say, 'So how should we act, O Messenger of Allah, in such a situation?' He replied, 'You should hold on to what you know and reject what you deny, and you should act according to your own circumstances and call upon your own people.' Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated this with a chain of transmission whose meaning is the same, except that he said, 'And only the refuse will remain from among the people, and you will call upon the affairs of your people.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يُغَرْبَلَ النَّاسُ غَرْبَلَةً وَتَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْوَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَكَانُوا هَكَذَا وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالُوا فَكَيْفَ نَصْنَعُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَذَرُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى خَاصَّتِكُمْ وَتَدَعُونَ عَامَّتَكُمْ حَدَّثَنَاهُ قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ بِإِسْنَادِهِ وَمَعْنَاهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَتَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَتَدَعُونَ أَمْرَ عَامَّتِكُمْ

The Prophet ﷺ said: How will you do when that time will come? أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ زَمَانٌ يُغَرْبَلُ النَّاسُ غَرْبَلَةً وَيَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا فَكَانُوا هَكَذَا» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالُوا فَكَيْفَ بِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَذَرُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى أَمْرِ خَاصَّتِكُمْ وَتَدَعُونَ أَمْرَ عَامَّتِكُمْ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The time will come when people will be sifted and only the refuse of people will remain; their covenants and trusts will be broken, and they will differ and be like this." And he interlaced his fingers. They said, "So, how should we act, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You should take what you know and leave what you deny, and you should adhere to your own affairs and leave the general matters." Sa'id bin Mansur said, "The refuse of people is their despicability, and the meaning of his statement 'their covenants will be broken' is that they will not fulfill them."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ زَمَانٌ يُغَرْبَلُ النَّاسُ فِيهِ غَرْبَلَةً وَيَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا وَكَانُوا هَكَذَا» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالُوا فَكَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَدَعُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى أَمْرِ خَاصَّتِكُمْ وَتَدَعُونَ أَمْرَ عَامَّتِكُمْ» قَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ حُثَالَةُ النَّاسِ رَدَاءَتَهُمْ وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ إِذْ لَمْ يَفُوا بِهَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How will you be, O Abdullah, when you remain in the midst of people's refuse?" He asked, "What are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He ﷺ said, "That is when they violate their trusts, break their agreements and become like this" - and he intertwined his fingers. He asked, "So what about me, O Messenger of Allah?" He ﷺ said, "You should do what you know, leave what you dislike, and live separate from the common people."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «كَيْفَ أَنْتَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ»؟ قَالَ وَذَاكَ مَا هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «ذَاكَ إِذَا مَرِجَتْ أَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَعُهُودُهُمْ وَصَارُوا هَكَذَا» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ بِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تَعْمَلُ مَا تَعْرِفُ وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَتَعْمَلُ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَتَدَعُ عَوَامَّ النَّاسِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abdullah ibn Amr, how will you be when you remain among the lowest of people?" He said, "And who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Those are the ones who break their trusts, betray their covenants, and become like this." And he intertwined his fingers. He said, "So how do you see it, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You must do what you know, forbid what you condemn, and prioritize yourself while leaving the common people."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «كَيْفَ أَنْتَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ»؟ قَالَ وَذَاكَ مَا هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «ذَاكَ إِذَا مَرِجَتْ أَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَعُهُودُهُمْ وَصَارُوا هَكَذَا» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ تَرَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تَعْمَلُ مَا تَعْرِفُ وَتَدَعُ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَتَعْمَلُ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَتَدَعُ عَوَامَّ النَّاسِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How would you be, O Abdullah bin Amr, if you were left among the riffraff of people?" Abdullah responded, "And what about them, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "That is when their promises and entrusted matters become insignificant and they become like this." And he intertwined his fingers. Abdullah asked, "So how about me, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "You should do what you know is right, avoid what you know is wrong, focus on your personal affairs, and leave the common people."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «كَيْفَ أَنْتَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو لَوْ بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ؟ » قَالَ وَذَاكَ مَا هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «ذَاكَ إِذَا مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَصَارُوا هَكَذَا» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ بِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تَعْمَلُ بِمَا تَعْرِفُ وَتَدَعُ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَتَعْمَلُ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكِ وَتَدَعُ عَوَامَّ النَّاسِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us one day while we were sitting in a gathering that included 'Amr ibn al-'As and his son. He said, "How do you see if you delay in a time when the lowly among the people, whose covenants and oaths have become mixed up and entangled, start to conflict and become like this?" And he interlaced his fingers. They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "You take what you know and leave what you disagree with, and each of you indulges in his own personal matters while ignoring the affairs of the general public."

خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمًا وَنَحْنُ فِي مَجْلِسٍ فِيهِ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ وَابْنُهُ فَقَالَ «كَيْفَ تَرَوْنَ إِذَا أُخِّرْتُمْ فِي زَمَانِ حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مُزِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ ونُذُورُهُمْ فاشْتَبَكُوا فَكَانُوا هَكَذَا؟» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالُوا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ «تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَدَعُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَيُقْبِلُ أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى خَاصَّةِ نَفْسِهِ وَيَذَرُ أَمْرَ الْعَامَّةِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abdullah bin Amr, "How will you be if you remain among the people's scum, and their promises and trusts are mixed up, and they have become like this, and you are tangled in their affairs?" Allah and His Messenger know better, he said, "Do what you know and leave what you disapprove of. Be cautious of involving yourself in the religion of Allah and take care of your own self, and leave the common people."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو «كَيْفَ بِكَ إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَقَدْ مُزِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا فَصَارُوا هَكَذَا وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ ؟» قَالَ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ «اعْمَلْ بِمَا تَعْرِفُ وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَإِيَّاكَ وَالتَّلَوُّنَ فِي دِينِ اللهِ وَعَلَيْكَ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَدَعْ عَوَامَّهُمْ»

[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "How will you be in a time or a time will come when people will be sifted and the dregs of people will remain, as if their covenants and trusts have melted away and they have disagreed and become like this." And he interlaced his fingers. They said, "What will be our condition, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You will take what you know and leave what you reject, and you will attend to your specific matters and disregard the general affairs."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «كَيْفَ بِكُمْ فِي زَمَانٍ أَوْ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ زَمَانٌ يُغَرْبَلُ النَّاسُ فِيهِ غَرْبَلَةً وَتَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا وَكَانُوا هَكَذَا» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ فَقَالُوا كَيْفَ بِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَذَرُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى أَمْرِ خَاصَّتِكُمْ وَتَدَعُونَ أَمْرَ عَامَّتِكُمْ»

[AI] He informed him that the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "How will it be for you when a time comes where people are sifted like sifters, and you will remain in the rubbish of people, their covenants have been violated, and they have abandoned their trusts and returned like this?" And he put his fingers together and said, "What should we do, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You should take what you know and reject what you deny, and rely on your distinguished ones and leave your common people."

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ «كَيْفَ بِكُمْ إِذَا جَاءَ زَمَانٌ يُغَرْبَلُ فِيهِ النَّاسُ غَرْبَلَةً وَبَقِيتُمْ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَضَيَّعُوا أَمَانَاتِهِمْ فَعَادُوا هَكَذَا» وَأَدْخَلَ أَصَابِعَهُ بَعْضَهُمْ فِي بَعْضٍ فَقَالُوا كَيْفَ نَصْنَعُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَدَعُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِخَوَاصِّكُمْ وَدَعُوا عَوَامَّكُمْ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What will you do when you find yourself among the worst of people, when their covenant and trustworthiness have degenerated, and their necks are divided, and they have become like this?" He then pointed between his fingers and said, "What is the way out, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Hold on to what you know and reject what you deny, and be concerned with your own self and beware of the general masses."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كَيْفَ إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتِلَافُ أَعْنَاقِهُمْ وَصَارُوا هَكَذَا» وَخَالَفَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ فَقَالَ كَيْفَ الْمَخْرَجُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «خُذْ بِمَا عَرَفْتَ وَدَعْ مَا أَنْكَرْتَ وَعَلَيْكَ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَإِيَّاكَ مِنْ عَوَامِّهِمْ»

[AI] To the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "How are you when you are among the lowest of people, and their promises and trusts have been broken and they have become like this?" Then he interlaced his fingers. I said, "How should I be, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You should take what you know and leave what you deny, and be responsible for yourself and beware of the common people."

لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كَيْفَ أَنْتَ إِذَا كُنْتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ فَاخْتَلَفُوا فَصَارُوا هَكَذَا» ثُمَّ أَدْخَلَ أَصَابِعَهُ بَعْضَهَا فِي بَعْضٍ قُلْتُ كَيْفَ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ تَأْخُذُ مَا تَعْرِفُ وَتَدَعُ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَعَلَيْكَ خَاصَّتَكَ وَإِيَّاكَ وَعَوَامَّهُمْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How are you if you remain among the refuse of the people, where their covenants are broken and their trusts are betrayed, and their hearts are divided?" And he intertwined his fingers and said, "What should I do, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Stick to what you know and leave what you deny, and be sincere to yourself and beware of the common people."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كَيْفَ أَنْتَ إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَمَرِجَتْ أَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِمَا تَعْرِفُ وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَعَلَيْكَ بِخُوَيْصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَإِيَّاكَ وَعَوَامَّهُمْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abdullah bin Amr, "How are you when you are amidst the worst of people, whose hearts have become hardened and whose trust has been broken, and their hearts are contentious?" He intertwined his fingers and said, "What should I do?" He replied, "Hold on to what you know, and leave what you disapprove of, and be separate from the common people."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو «كَيْفَ أَنْتَ إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَرِجَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ؟ قَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِمَا تَعْرِفُ وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَعَلَيْكَ بِخُوَيْصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَإِيَّاكَ وَعَوَامَّهُمْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How will it be for you when you are left amongst the people's dregs, where their covenants and trusts have been broken, and they have become like this?" And he intertwined his fingers. He said, "What do you command me, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Hold onto what you know and leave what you reject, and focus on yourself and leave the common people."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «كَيْفَ بِكَ إِذَا بِكَ بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَوْمٌ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا وَصَارُوا هَكَذَا؟» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ مَا تَأْمُرُنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِمَا تَعْرِفُ وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَعَلَيْكَ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَدَعْ عَوَامَّهُمْ

"إِذَا رأيتَ الناسَ قدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهودُهْم، وخفَّتْ أمَاناتُهم، وكانوا هكذا -وشبِّك بينَ أناملهِ- فالزمْ بيتَكَ، وامْلِكْ عليكَ لسانك، وخُذْ ما تَعِرفُ، ودعْ ما تُنكرُ، وعليكَ بخاصةِ أَمرِ نْفسِكَ، ودعْ عنك أمْر العامةِ".

"إِذَا رأيتُمَ الناسَ قد مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُم وَخَفَّتَ أماناتهم وكانوا هكذا -وشبّكَ بين أصابعه- ألْزِمَ بيتك وامْلِكْ عليك لسانَكَ وخُذْ بما تَعْرِفُ ودع ما تُنْكرُ، وَعَليكَ بأَمْر خاصِّةِ نفسِك، ودع أمْرَ الْعَامَّةِ" .

"كَيفَ بِكُم بِزَمَانٍ يُوشِكُ أنْ يَأتِيَ، يُغَربلُ النَّاسُ فِيهِ غَرْبَلَةً، وَيَبْقَى حُثَالةٌ منَ الناسِ قَد مَرَجَت عُهُودُهُمْ وأمَانَاتهُمْ واخْتَلَفُوا وكَانوا هَكَذا؟ وَشَبَّكَ بَينَ أصَابعه، قالوا: كيفَ بِنَا يَا رسولَ الله إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَال: تَأخْذُونَ بِمَا تَغرفْون، وَتدَعُونَ مَا تُنكرُونَ وَتُقبِلُونَ عَلَى أمرِ خَاصَّتِكُمْ، وَتَذَرُونَ أمر عَامَّتِكُمْ".

"كَيفَ بِكَ إِذَا بَقِيتَ لي حُثَالة مِنْ النَّاسِ قَدْ، مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُم وَأَمَانَاتِهمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا - فَصَارُوا هَكَذَا - وَشَبَّكَ بَينَ أَصَابِعِهِ؟ قَال: الله وَرَسولُهُ أَعْلَمُ. قَال: اعْمَلْ بمَا تَعْرِفُ، وَدع مَا تُنْكِرُ، وَإياكَ وَالتَّلَوُّنَ فِي دِينِ الله، وَعَلَيكَ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ، وَدَعْ عَوَامَّهُمْ".

"كَيفَ تَرَوْنَ إِذَا أُخِّرْتُمْ () فِي زَمَانِ حُثَالةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودهُم وَنَذُورُهُم فَاشْتَكُوا () فَكَانُوا هَكَذَا - وَشَبَّكَ بَينَ أَصَابعِهِ -؟ قَالُوا: الله وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَم. قَال: تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرفُونَ، وَتَدَعُونَ مَا تُنكرُونَ، وَيُقْبل أَحَدُكُم عَلَى حاصَّة نَفْسِه، وَيَذَرُ أَمْرَ العَامَّة".

"يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأتِى زَمَانٌ يُغَرْبَلُ فِيهِ النَّاسُ غَرْبَلَةً، وَتَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَاخْتَلَفُوا فَكَانُوا هَكَذَا -وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ- قَالُوا: كَيْفَ بِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّه؟ قَالَ: تَأخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ، وَتَدَعُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ، وَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى أمْرِ خَاصَّتِكُمْ، وَتَذَرُونَ أمْرَ عَامَّتِكُمْ".

" عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ قَالَ لأَصْحَابِه: كيْفَ أَنْتُمْ إِذَا بَقِيتُمْ فِى حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَرِجَتْ أَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَعُهُودُهُمْ وَكَانُوا هَكَذَا؟ ثُمَّ أَدْخَلَ أَصَابِعَهُ بعْضَهَا فِى بَعْضٍ، قَالُوا: فَإِذَا كَانَ كَذَلِكَ كَيْفَ نَفْعَلُ يَارَسُولَ الله؟ قَالَ: خُذوا مَا تَعْرِفُونَ، وَدَعُوا مَا تُنْكِرُونَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ عَبْدُ الله بْنُ عَمْرِو بْن الْعَاصِ: مَا تَأمُرُنِى بِهِ يَارَسُولَ الله إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: آمُرُكَ بِتَقْوَى الله، وَعَلَيْكَ بِنَفْسِكَ، وَإِيَّاكَ وَعَامَّةَ الأُمُورِ ".
