[Machine] A man came to Abdullah from the tribe of Bajilah, his name was Nahiq bin Sinan. He said, "O Abu Abdullah, how do you recite this verse: 'From water gushing forth, that is unsalty and sweet' [Surah Muhammad 15]?" Abdullah replied, "Did you enumerate the entire Quran except for this one verse?" Nahiq said, "I recite the detailed (mu'fasal) Quran in one unit of prayer." Abdullah said, "Is it like this poetry? Indeed, the best prayer includes bowing and prostrating, and some people recite the Quran without even passing their throats. But when they recite it, it deeply penetrates their hearts and brings benefit. Indeed, I know the similar verses that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite two Surahs in one unit of prayer." He then stood up and entered. Alqamah entered upon him and we said to him, "Ask him about the similar verses that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite two Surahs in one unit of prayer." Alqamah asked him and then came out to us and said, "Twenty Surahs from the beginning of the Mu'fasal in the arrangement of Abdullah."

Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, how do you recite this word (alif) or (ya)? Would you read It as: min ma'in ghaira asin or au min ma'in ghaira ghaira yasin. (al-Qur'an, xlvii. 15)? 'Abdullah said: You (seem to) have memorised the whole of the Qur'an except this. He (again) said: I recite all the mufassal surahs in one rak'ah. Upon this 'Abdullah said: (You must have been reciting It) hastily like the recitation of poetry. Verily. there are people who recite the Qur'an, but it does not go down beyond their collar bones. It is (a fact with the Qur'an) that it is beneficial only when it settles in the heart and is rooted deeply in it. The best of (the acts) in prayer are bowing and prostration. I am quite aware of the occasions when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined together two surahs in every rak'ah. 'Abdullah then stood up and went out with 'Alqama following in his footstep. He said Ibn Numair had told him that the narration was like that:" A person belonging to Banu Bajila came to 'Abdullah," and he did not mention (the name of) Nahik b. Sinan.

[Machine] O Abu Abdur-Rahman, how do you read this Ayah "{from unsullied water}" [Muhammad: 15], do you read it as ya or alif? So he said, "I have counted all of the Quran except for this one." Abdullah said, "I read the detailed one in each rakah." He said, "Abdullah did this as the poets do. Indeed, from the best of prayer is the rukoo and the sujood, and the Quran will be recited by people whose provision does not exceed their ankles. But when it is recited, it penetrates the heart and benefits. I definitely know the equivalent(s) which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in two surahs in each rakah, then he stood and entered [prostration]. Alqamah came and entered [the prostration]. We said, Ask him about the equivalents which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in each rakah." So he entered and asked him. Then he left and said, "Twenty surahs from the beginning of the Mufassal, in the compilation of Abdullah."
