[Machine] A man from his companions was brought to him the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he did not make it lawful or unlawful. So he said, "How bad is what you are saying! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was only sent as one who permits and prohibits." Umm Hufayd, the daughter of Al-Harith, came to visit her sister Maymuna, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , and she had food with her that contained the meat of a lizard. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came after he had finished his prayer, so he was brought closer to him. It was said to him, "Indeed, in it is the meat of a lizard." So he withdrew his hand and did not eat it, even though it was permissible for him. He forbade them from it and said, "It is not our custom, and we dislike it."

[Machine] Some of his companions brought him (the Prophet Muhammad) something and he neither declared it lawful nor prohibited it. Ibn Abbas said, "What are you saying? The Messenger of Allah was only sent with (the knowledge of) what is lawful and what is prohibited. It was only Umm Hufaid, the daughter of Al-Harith, who came to visit her sister Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, and they brought food with them, in which there was the meat of a deer. Then the Messenger of Allah came after he had become dark (meaning it was night). Maymunah said, 'O Messenger of Allah, it is the meat of a deer.' So he refrained from (eating) it and Maymunah refrained from (eating) it." Ibn Abbas said, "But whoever had meat with him, he ate it, even if it was prohibited, he prohibited them from it and said, 'It is not our land, and we are not in need of it.'"
