[Machine] "That none of you should start his day of fasting until he has eaten some dates." I said, "But I have never left my fast without eating before dawn since I heard that from Ibn 'Abbas." So I ate from the side of the Salik (a kind of food). Then I said to him, "What is the interpretation of this?" He replied, "That was the common eating of the fasting person at the time of the Prophet ﷺ and that the fasting person should not put off his Suhoor (till late)."

(Note: Suhoor refers to the pre-dawn meal before fasting during Ramadan)

[Machine] That no one should leave on the day of Eid until they have eaten, so let them do so. I said, "I will not leave until I have eaten, since I heard that from Ibn Abbas." So, I ate from a piece of bread. I asked, "What is the piece of bread?" He said, "It is thin bread, or drinking milk or wine or water." So I asked, "Why is this interpreted?" He said, "I heard that it is from the Prophet ﷺ who said, 'They used to not leave until the sun had risen, and they would say, 'Let us eat so that we do not delay the prayer.' He said, 'And sometimes I would wake up in the morning and only taste water.'" Ibn Abbas is the one who said this.
