[Machine] I visited Hafsah bint Abdur Rahman and said, "I have a question that I feel embarrassed to ask you." She replied, "Do not feel ashamed, O cousin." I asked about women approaching their husbands from behind for intercourse. She told me that Umm Salamah had informed her that the Ansar used to avoid their wives during menstruation, and the Jews claimed that anyone who had intercourse with his wife during her period would have a deformed child. When the Muhajirun migrated to Madinah, they married the women of the Ansar and had intercourse with them during their periods, and their children were not deformed. However, one woman refused to obey her husband and said she would not do so until she consulted the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. She went to Umm Salamah and mentioned the matter to her, and Umm Salamah advised her to wait until the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ comes. When he arrived, the Ansari woman felt shy to ask him, so she left and informed Umm Salamah. Umm Salamah then told the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about the matter, and he said to call the Ansari woman back. When she returned, he recited to her the verse: "Your wives are a place of cultivation for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish" (Quran, 2:223)
