[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and some people following him, so I followed him with them. He said, "Suddenly the people surrounded me." He said, "And some people remained and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and hit me with a blow, either with a stick, a whip, a toothbrush, or something he had." He said, "By Allah, it did not hurt me." He said, "So I stayed awake that night." He said, "Or I said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not hit me except for something Allah knew about me.'" He said, "And my conscience told me to go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when I wake up." He said, "Gabriel ﷺ came down to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'You are a shepherd, so do not break the horns of your flock.'" He said, "When we prayed the morning prayer or when we woke up, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Allah, there are people who follow me, and I am not impressed by them following me, O Allah, whoever I have hit or caused harm, make it an expiation and reward for him, or he said forgiveness and mercy, or as he said.'"

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأُنَاسٌ يَتْبَعُونَهُ فَأَتْبَعْتُهُ مَعَهُمْ قَالَ فَفَجِئَنِي الْقَوْمُ يَسْعَوْنَ قَالَ وَأَبْقَى الْقَوْمُ فَأَتَى عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَضَرَبَنِي ضَرْبَةً إِمَّا بِعَسِيبٍ أَوْ قَضِيبٍ أَوْ سِوَاكٍ أَوْ شَيْءٍ كَانَ مَعَهُ قَالَ فَوَاللهِ مَا أَوْجَعَنِي قَالَ فَبِتُّ بِلَيْلَةٍ قَالَ أَوْ قُلْتُ مَا ضَرَبَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا لِشَيْءٍ عَلِمَهُ اللهُ فِيَّ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَتْنِي نَفْسِي أَنْ آتِيَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتُ قَالَ فَنَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّكَ رَاعٍ فَلَا تَكْسِرْ قُرُونَ رَعِيَّتِكَ قَالَ فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْنَا الْغَدَاةَ أَوْ قَالَ أَصْبَحْنَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اللهُمَّ إِنَّ أُنَاسًا يَتْبَعُونِي وَإِنِّي لَا يُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ يَتْبَعُونِي اللهُمَّ فَمَنْ ضَرَبْتُ أَوْ سَبَبْتُ فَاجْعَلْهَا لَهُ كَفَّارَةً وَأَجْرًا أَوْ قَالَ مَغْفِرَةً وَرَحْمَةً أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ
