[Machine] I heard the son of al-Khassasa saying, "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him upon Islam. So he stipulated for me, 'Bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, perform the five daily prayers, fast during Ramadan, give Zakat, perform Hajj, and strive in the cause of Allah.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah! As for two of them, I cannot bear them. As for Zakat, I have nothing except ten camels, who are the messengers of my family and their burdens. As for Jihad, they claim that whoever turns away has earned the wrath of Allah. So when a battle is imminent, I dislike death and my soul becomes weak.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of his hand, then shook it and said, 'There is no charity or Jihad, so how will you enter paradise?' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah! I pledge allegiance to you and will fulfill all of them.'"  

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ الْخَصَاصِيَةِ يَقُولُ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِأُبَايِعَهُ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ فَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَيَّ «تَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَتُصَلِّيَ الْخَمْسَ وَتَصُومَ رَمَضَانَ وَتُؤَدِّي الزَّكَاةَ وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ وَتُجَاهِدَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ» قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمَّا اثْنَتَانِ فَلَا أُطِيقُهُمَا أَمَّا الزَّكَاةُ فَمَالِي إِلَّا عَشْرُ ذَوْدٍ هُنَّ رُسُلُ أَهْلِي وَحَمُولَتُهُمْ وَأَمَّا الْجِهَادُ فَيَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ مَنْ وَلَّى فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِغَضَبٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ فَأَخَافُ إِذَا حَضَرَنِي قِتَالٌ كَرِهْتُ الْمَوْتَ وَخَشَعَتْ نَفْسِي قَالَ فَقَبَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ حَرَّكَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَا صَدَقَةَ وَلَا جِهَادَ فَبِمَ تَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ؟» قَالَ ثُمَّ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أُبَايِعُكَ فَبَايَعَنِي عَلَيْهِنَّ كُلِّهِنَّ  

[Machine] "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him, and he stipulated for me the conditions to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, to establish the five daily prayers, to fast in Ramadan, to pay the Zakat (obligatory charity), to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, and to strive in the cause of Allah. So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, as for the two conditions, I am not capable of fulfilling them - the Zakat, for by Allah, all I possess is ten camels that are the sustenance and burdens of my family. And as for the Jihad, they claim that anyone who abandons it has incurred the wrath of Allah. So, when I fear encountering a battle, my soul becomes weak and I despise death.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ grabbed my hand, shook it, then said, 'There is no charity nor Jihad that will enter Paradise?' So I pledged allegiance to him on all of these conditions."  

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أُبَايِعُهُ فَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَيَّ «تَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَتُصَلِّي الْخَمْسَ وَتَصُومُ رَمَضَانَ وَتُؤَدِّي الزَّكَاةَ وَتَحُجُّ الْبَيْتَ وتُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَمَّا اثْنَتَانِ فَلَا أُطِيقُهُمَا الزَّكَاةُ فَوَاللهِ مَالِي إِلَّا عَشْرُ ذَوْدٍ هُنَّ رُسُلُ أَهْلِي وَحَمُولَتُهُمْ وَأَمَّا الْجِهَادُ فَيَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ مَنْ وَلَّى فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِغَضَبٍ مِنَ اللهِ فَأَخَافُ إِذَا حَضَرَنِي قِتَالٌ خَشَعَتْ نَفْسِي وَكَرِهْتُ الْمَوْتَ فَقَبَضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ فحَرَّكَها ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَا صَدَقَةَ وَلَا جِهَادَ تَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ؟» فَبَايَعْتُهُ عَلَيْهِنَّ كُلِّهِنَّ  

[Machine] I heard Ibn al-Khasa'isah saying, "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him on Islam. He stipulated that I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, and that I pray the five prayers, fast during Ramadan, give Zakat, perform Hajj, and strive in the cause of Allah. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I cannot bear two of them. As for Zakat, I do not have more than ten Dirhams. They are my family's messengers and their burdens. As for Jihad, they believe that whoever turns away from it has incurred the wrath of Allah. When I am about to face a battle, I dislike death and my soul becomes fearful.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then took hold of his hand and moved it and said, 'There is no Zakat or Jihad for you. How then will you enter Paradise?' He said, 'Then I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I pledge allegiance to you, so pledge allegiance to me on these,' and I motioned with my hand." This is the wording of Abu 'Abdullah's Hadith.  

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ الْخَصَاصِيَةِ ؓ يَقُولُ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لِأُبَايِعَهُ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ فَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَيَّ أَنْ تَشْهَدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَتُصَلِّيَ الْخَمْسَ وَتَصُومَ رَمَضَانَ وَتُؤَدِّيَ الزَّكَاةَ وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ وَتُجَاهِدَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَمَّا اثْنَتَانِ فَلَا أُطِيقُهُمَا أَمَّا الزَّكَاةُ فَمَا لِي إِلَّا عَشْرُ ذَوْدٍ هُنَّ رَسَلُ أَهْلِي وَحَمُولَتُهُمْ وَأَمَّا الْجِهَادُ فَيَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ مَنْ وَلَّى فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِغَضَبٍ مِنَ اللهِ فَأَخَافُ إِذَا حَضَرَنِي قِتَالٌ كَرِهْتُ الْمَوْتَ وَخَشَعَتْ نَفْسِي قَالَ فَقَبَضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ حَرَّكَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ لَا صَدَقَةَ وَلَا جِهَادَ فَبِمَ تَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ؟ قَالَ ثُمَّ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أُبَايِعُكَ فَبَايَعَنِي عَلَيْهِنَّ كُلِّهِنَّ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ  

"عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ الْخَصَاصِيَة قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ لأُبَايِعَهُ فَقُلْتُ: عَلامَ تُبَايعُنِى يَارَسُولَ الله؟ فَمَدَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ فَقَالَ: تَشْهدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ الله وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ ورسُولُهُ، وَتُصَلِّى الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسَ لِوَقْتِهَا، وَتُؤَدِّى الزَّكَاةَ الْمَفْرُوضَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا وَتصُومُ رَمَضَانَ، وَتَحُجُّ البَيْتَ، وتُجَاهِدُ فِى سَبِيلِ اللهِ، قُلتُ: يَارَسُولَ الله! كُلاّ نُطيقُ إِلاَّ اثْنَتَيْنِ فَلاَ أُطِيقُهُمَا: الزَّكَاةَ واللهِ مَالِى إِلاَّ عَشْرُ ذُوْد (*) هُنَّ رُسُلُ أهْلِى وَحَمُولَتُهُنَّ، وَأَمَّا الجِهَادُ فَإِنِّى رجُلٌ جَبَانٌ وَتَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ مَنْ وَلَّى فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِغَضَبٍ مِنَ اللهِ، وَأَخَافُ إِنْ حَضَرَ القِتَالُ أَنْ أَخْشَعَ بِنَفْسِى فأَفِرَّ وأَبُوءَ بِغَضَبٍ مِنَ اللهِ، فَقَبَضَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ حَرّكَهَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا بَشِيرُ! لاَ صَدَقَةَ، وَلاَ جِهَادَ فَبِمَ إِذَنْ تَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ؟ قُلْتُ: يَارَسُولَ اللهِ! ابْسُطْ يَدَكَ أُبَايِعْكَ، فَبَسَطَ يَدَهُ فَبَايَعْتُهُ عَلَيْهِنَّ كُلِّهِنَّ".
