A treasure from the treasures of Jannah

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on expedition to Khaybar, or he said, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out, the people came upon a valley and raised their voices with the takbir: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, lā ilāha illā Allāh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Take it easy on yourselves, for you are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent; you are calling upon One who is Hearing, Near, and He is with you."

I was behind the mount of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he heard me while I was saying, “There is no might and no power except with Allah.” He said to me: "O Abdullah b. Qays." I said, “Labbayk (at your service), Messenger of Allah.” He said: "Shall I not guide you to a phrase from a treasure among the treasures of Jannah?" I said, “Yes, Messenger of Allah; may my father and mother be ransomed for you.” He said:

lā ḥawla wa-lā quwwata illā bi-Allāh

(There is no might and no power except with Allah)

لَمَّا غَزَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَيْبَرَ، أَوْ قَالَ: لَمَّا تَوَجَّهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ، أَشْرَفَ النَّاسُ عَلَى وَادٍ، فَرَفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ؛ إِنَّكُمْ لاَ تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلاَ غَائِبًا، إِنَّكُمْ تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا قَرِيبًا وَهْوَ مَعَكُمْ».

وَأَنَا خَلْفَ دَابَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ، فَسَمِعَنِي وَأَنَا أَقُولُ: لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ، فَقَالَ لِي: «يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ». قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَلِمَةٍ مِنْ كَنْزٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ؟» قُلْتُ: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي، قَالَ:

«لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ».

We were in the company of the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and whenever we ascended a high place, we used to say Takbir (in a loud voice). The Prophet ﷺ said, "O people! Be kind to yourselves, for you are not calling upon a deaf or an absent one, but You are calling an All-Hearer, and an All-Seer." Then he came to me as I was reciting silently, "La haul a wala quwwata illa bil-lah." He said, "O ʿAbdullah bin Qais! Say: La haul a walaquwata illa bil-lah, for it is one of the treasures of Paradise." Or he said, "Shall I tell you a word which is one of the treasures of Paradise? It is: La haul a wala quwwata illa bil-lah."

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَكُنَّا إِذَا عَلَوْنَا كَبَّرْنَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ فَإِنَّكُمْ لاَ تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلاَ غَائِبًا وَلَكِنْ تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا ثُمَّ أَتَى عَلَىَّ وَأَنَا أَقُولُ فِي نَفْسِي لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ قُلْ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا كَنْزٌ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ أَوْ قَالَ أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَلِمَةٍ هِيَ كَنْزٌ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

While we were with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a holy battle, we never went up a hill or reached its peak or went down a valley but raised our voices with Takbir. Messenger of Allah ﷺ came close to us and said, "O people! Don't exert yourselves, for you do not call a deaf or an absent one, but you call the All- Listener, the All-Seer." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "O ʿAbdullah bin Qais! Shall I teach you a sentence which is from the treasures of Paradise? ( It is): 'La haula wala quwata illa billah. (There is neither might nor power except with Allah).

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ فَجَعَلْنَا لاَ نَصْعَدُ شَرَفًا وَلاَ نَعْلُو شَرَفًا وَلاَ نَهْبِطُ فِي وَادٍ إِلاَّ رَفَعْنَا أَصْوَاتَنَا بِالتَّكْبِيرِ قَالَ فَدَنَا مِنَّا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ فَإِنَّكُمْ لاَ تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلاَ غَائِبًا إِنَّمَا تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلاَ أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَةً هِيَ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and whenever we ascended a high place, we used to say, "Allahu Akbar." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Don't trouble yourselves too much! You are not calling a deaf or an absent person, but you are calling One Who Hears, Sees, and is very near." Then he came to me while I was saying in my heart, "La hawla wala quwwatta illa billah (There is neither might nor power but with Allah)." He said, to me, "O ʿAbdullah bin Qais! Say, 'La hawla wala quwwata illa billah (There is neither might nor power but with Allah), for it is one of the treasures of Paradise." Or said, "Shall I tell you of it?"

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَكُنَّا إِذَا عَلَوْنَا كَبَّرْنَا فَقَالَ ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ فَإِنَّكُمْ لاَ تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلاَ غَائِبًا تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا قَرِيبًا ثُمَّ أَتَى عَلَىَّ وَأَنَا أَقُولُ فِي نَفْسِي لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ فَقَالَ لِي يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ قُلْ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا كَنْزٌ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ أَوْ قَالَ أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ بِهِ

We were along with Allah's Apostle ﷺ on a journey when the people began to pronounce "Allahu Akbar" in a loud voice. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O people, show mercy to yourselves for you are not calling One who is deaf or absent. Verily, you are calling One who is All-Hearing (and) Near to you and is with you. Abu Musa said that he had been behind him (the Prophet) and reciting: "There is neither might nor power but that of Allah." He (the Prophet), while addressing 'Abdullah b. Qais, said: Should I not direct you to a treasure from amongst the treasures of Paradise? I ('Abdullah b. Qais) said: Messenger of Allah, do it, of course. Thereupon he (the Prophet) said: Then recite: "There is no might and no power but that of Allah."

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَجْهَرُونَ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ لَيْسَ تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلاَ غَائِبًا إِنَّكُمْ تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا قَرِيبًا وَهُوَ مَعَكُمْ قَالَ وَأَنَا خَلْفَهُ وَأَنَا أَقُولُ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَنْزٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ فَقُلْتُ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُلْ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

Should I not direct you to the words from the treasures of Paradise, or he said: Like a treasure from the treasures of Paradise? I said: Of course, do that. Thereupon he said:" There is no might and no power but that of Allah."

لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَلِمَةٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ أَوْ قَالَ عَلَى كَنْزٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ فَقُلْتُ بَلَى فَقَالَ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

Once we accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey. When we reached near Medina, the people began to say aloud: "Allah is most great," and they raised their voice. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O people, you are not supplicating one who is deaf and absent, but you are supplicating One Who is nearer to you than the neck of your riding beast. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: AbuMusa, should I not point out to you one of the treasures of Paradise? I asked: What is that? He replied: "There is no might and there is no power except in Allah"

كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَلَمَّا دَنَوْا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ كَبَّرَ النَّاسُ وَرَفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّكُمْ لاَ تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلاَ غَائِبًا إِنَّ الَّذِي تَدْعُونَهُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ أَعْنَاقِ رِكَابِكُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا أَبَا مُوسَى أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَنْزٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ فَقُلْتُ وَمَا هُوَ قَالَ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

“We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition. When we returned, we overlooked Al-Madinah, and the people were pronouncing the Takbīr, and they raised their voices with it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Verily, your Lord is not deaf nor absent, He is between you and between the heads of your mounts.’ Then he said: ‘O ʿAbdullah bin Qais, should I not inform you of a treasure from the treasures of Paradise: Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh (There is no might or power except by Allah).’”

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ ؓ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ فَلَمَّا قَفَلْنَا أَشْرَفْنَا عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَكَبَّرَ النَّاسُ تَكْبِيرَةً وَرَفَعُوا بِهَا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَيْسَ بِأَصَمَّ وَلَا غَائِبٍ هُوَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ رُءُوسِ رِحَالِكُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَنْزًا مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

[AI] From Abu Musa, they were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and they raised their voices in supplication. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, you are not calling upon a deaf or absent [One]. Indeed, you are calling upon One who is near, hearing your supplication and responding." Then he said, "O Abdullah ibn Qais or O Abu Musa, shall I not guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Jannah (Paradise)? There is no power or strength except with Allah."

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَرَفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ بِالدُّعَاءِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلَا غَائِبًا إِنَّكُمْ تَدْعُونَ قَرِيبًا مُجِيبًا يَسْمَعُ دُعَاءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَجِيبُ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَوْ يَا أَبَا مُوسَى أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَنْزٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ؟ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ

[AI] We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey when we descended in a valley on the ground. The people began to raise their voices with takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar). The Prophet said, "O people, be gentle with yourselves, for you are not calling upon a deaf or absent (God), but rather you are calling upon a hearing and near (God)." Then he called me, and I was close to him, and he said, "O Abdullah bin Qais, shall I not inform you of a phrase from the treasures of Paradise?" I said, "Yes." He said, "There is no power or strength except with Allah."

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ قَالَ فَهَبَطْنَا فِي وَهْدَةً مِنَ الْأَرْضِ قَالَ فَرَفَعَ النَّاسُ أَصْوَاتَهُمْ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ؛ فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلَا غَائِبًا إِنَّكُمْ تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا قَرِيبًا قَالَ ثُمَّ دَعَانِي وَكُنْتُ مِنْهُ قَرِيبًا فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَلِمَةٍ مِنْ كَنْزِ الْجَنَّةِ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ

قَالَ مَرَّتْ عَلَيْهِ أَحْمِرَةٌ وَهُوَ بِالشَّامِ تَحْمِلُ الْخَمْرَ فَأَخَذَ شَفْرَةً مِنَ السُّوقِ وَقَامَ إِلَيْهَا حَتَّى شَقَّقَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِي النَّشَاطِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَعَلَى الْعُسْرِ وَالْيُسْرِ وَعَلَى الْأَمْرِ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَالنَّهْيِ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَعَلَى أَنْ نَقُولَ فِي اللَّهِ لَا تَأَخُذُنَا فِيهِ لَوْمَةُ لَائِمٍ وَعَلَى أَنْ نَنْصُرَ أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ الْمَظْلُومَ وَنَمْنَعَ مِنْهُ مَا نَمْنَعُ مِنْهُ أَنْفُسَنَا وَأَبْنَاءَنَا هَذَا مَا بَايَعَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ سَيَلِي أُمُورَكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِي نَفَرٌ يُعَرِّفُونَكُمْ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَيُنْكِرُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ فَلَا طَاعَةَ لِمَنْ عَصَى اللَّهَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا غُنْدَرٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَشْعَثِ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا هَمَّامٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَشْعَثِ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ وَأَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيٍّ ؓ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ فَرَفَعْنَا أَصْوَاتَنَا فَدَنَا مِنَّا فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلَا غَائِبًا إِنَّمَا تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا وَإِنَّ الَّذِي تَدْعُونَ أَقْرَبُ إِلَى أَحَدِكُمْ مِنْ عُنُقِ رَاحِلَتِكُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَةً هِيَ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ رَوَاهُ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ وَخَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ وَعُثْمَانَ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ وَأَبُو تَمِيمَةَ فَأَمَّا حَدِيثُ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ فَحَدَّثَنَا بِهِ يَحْيَى بْنُ حَكِيمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَخْبَرَنَاهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ حَكِيمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَخْبَرَنَا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى إِلَّا إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى وَاللَّفْظُ فِي هَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيثُ وَهَذِهِ الْأَسَانِيدُ لَفْظُ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ؓ قَالَ كُنَّا فِي غَزَاةٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَعَلْنَا لَا نَصْعَدُ شَرَفًا وَلَا نَعْلُو شَرَفًا وَلَا نَهْبِطُ مِنْ وَادِي أَوْ قَالَ نَهْبِطُ وَادِيًا إِلَّا رَفَعْنَا أَصْوَاتَنَا بِالتَّكْبِيرِ فَدَنَا مِنَّا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلَا غَائِبًا إِنَّمَا تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا إِنَّ الَّذِي تَدْعُونَ أَقْرَبُ إِلَى أَحَدِكُمْ مِنْ عُنُقِ رَاحِلَتِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَةً هِيَ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَأَخْبَرَنَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَالثَّوْرِيُّ جَمِيعًا عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى

[AI] Narrated Abu Musa: We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a jungle and the people started raising their voices withTakbir (saying: Allah-u-Akbar). The Prophet ﷺ said, "O people! Be merciful to yourselves (i.e. don't raise your voices), for you are not calling a deaf or an absent one but a Hearer, near and present." Then he pointed towards me said, "O Abdullah bin Qais! Shall I tell you a sentence from the treasures of Paradise?" I replied in the affirmative. He said, "La hawla wala quwwata illa billah (There is no power or strength except with Allah)."

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَهَبَطْنَا فِي وَهْدَةٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ فَرَفَعَ النَّاسُ أَصْوَاتَهُمْ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَرْبِعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ؛ إِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْعُونَ أَصَمًّا وَلَا غَائِبًا إِنَّكُمْ تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا قَرِيبًا» فَقَالَ لِي وَكُنْتُ قَرِيبًا مِنْهُ «يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلَا أَدُلُّكُ عَلَى كَلِمَةٍ مِنْ كَنْزِ الْجَنَّةِ؟» قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ «لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ»

While we were with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a holy battle, we never went up a hill or reached its peak or went down a valley but raised our voices with Takbir. Messenger of Allah ﷺ came close to us and said, "O people! Don't exert yourselves, for you do not call a deaf or an absent one, but you call the All- Listener, the All-Seer." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "O ʿAbdullah bin Qais! Shall I teach you a sentence which is from the treasures of Paradise? ( It is): 'La haula wala quwata illa billah. (There is neither might nor power except with Allah). (Using translation from Bukhārī 6610)

“We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition. When we returned, we overlooked Al-Madinah, and the people were pronouncing the Takbir, and they raised their voices with it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Verily, your Lord is not deaf nor absent, [and] He is between you and between the heads of your mounts.’ Then he said: ‘O ʿAbdullah bin Qais, should I not inform you of a treasure from the treasures of Paradise: Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh (There is no might or power except by Allah).’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3461)

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةٍ فَلَمَّا قَفَلْنَا أَشْرَفْنَا عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ وَكَبَّرَ النَّاسُ تَكْبِيرَةً رَفَعُوا بِهَا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَيْسَ بِأَصَمَّ وَلَا غَائِبَ فَهُوَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ رُءُوسِ رَوَاحِلِكُمْ» فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَنْزٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ فَلَمَّا أَقْفَلْنَا أَشْرَفْنَا عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَكَبَّرَ النَّاسُ تَكْبِيرَةً وَرَفَعُوا بِهَا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَيْسَ بِأَصَمَّ وَلَا غَائِبٍ هُوَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ رَأْسِ رِحَالِكُمْ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَنْزًا مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ؟ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ»

When Messenger of Allah ﷺ fought the battle of Khaibar, or when Messenger of Allah ﷺ went towards it, (whenever) the people, (passed over a high place overlooking a valley, they raised their voices saying, "Allahu-Akbar! Allahu-Akbar! None has the right to be worshipped except Allah." On that Allah's Apostle said (to them), "Lower your voices, for you are not calling a deaf or an absent one, but you are calling a Hearer Who is near and is with you." I was behind the riding animal of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he heard me saying. "There Is neither might, nor power but with Allah," On that he said to me, "O ʿAbdullah bin Qais!" I said, "Labbaik. O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" He said, "Shall I tell you a sentence which is one of the treasures of Paradise" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Let my father and mother be sacrificed for your sake." He said, "It is: There is neither might nor power but with Allah." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4205)

لَمَّا غَزَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حُنَيْنًا أَوْ قَالَ لَمَّا تَوَجَّهَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى حُنَيْنٍ أَشْرَفَ النَّاسُ عَلَى وَادٍ فَرَفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ارْبَعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْعُونَ أَصَمًّا وَلَا غَائِبًا إِنَّمَا تَدْعُونَ سَمِيعًا قَرِيبًا وَهُوَ مَعَكُمْ قَالَ وَأَنَا خَلْفُ رَايَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمِعَنِي وَأَنَا أَقُولُ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ فَقُلْتُ لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَلِمَةٍ مِنْ كَنْزِ الْجَنَّةِ قُلْتُ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي قَالَ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ
