The revelation of Surat Ad-Duha when Jibril was delayed

ahmad:18806 – Wakīʿ > Sufyān > al-Aswad b. Qays > Jundub al-ʿAlaqī

[AI] That Jibril delayed in coming to the Prophet ﷺ, so he became distressed. He said: Then it was said to him. He said: Then it was revealed: "By the morning brightness, and by the night when it grows still, your Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He detested you." [Ad-Duha 2].

أحمد:١٨٨٠٦ – حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جُنْدُبًا الْعَلَقِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ

أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَبْطَأَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَجَزِعَ. قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لَهُ. قَالَ: فَنَزَلَتْ ﴿وَالضُّحَى وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَى مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَى﴾ [الضحى 2].

Gabriel did not come to the Prophet (for some time) and so one of the Quraish women said, "His Satan has deserted him." So came the Divine Revelation: "By the forenoon And by the night When it is still! Your Lord (O Muhammad) has neither Forsaken you Nor hated you." (93.1-3)

البخاري:١١٢٥ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ جُنْدَبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ؓ قَالَ

احْتَبَسَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ أَبْطَأَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْطَانُهُ فَنَزَلَتْ {وَالضُّحَى * وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَى * مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَى}

" Wa'dd hd wa'l-laili iza saja, ma wadda'ka Rabbuka wa' ma qala" [By the glorious morning light, and by the night when it is still: thy Lord has not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased].
