Reciting Surat Ya Sin for a loved one dying on the deathbed

ahmad:16969Abū al-Mughīrah > Ṣafwān > al-Mashyakhah

They were present with Ghudayf b. al-Harith al-Thumali when he was on his deathbed. He asked if there was anyone among them who could recite "Ya-Sin." So, Salih b. Shurayh al-Sakuni recited it, and when he reached the fortieth verse, Ghudayf passed away.

The elders used to say that when "Ya-Sin" is recited in the presence of someone who is dying, their suffering is alleviated. Safwan mentioned that Isa b. al-Mu'tamir recited it for Ibn Ma'bad.
