I heard Nu'man deliver an address in which he said that (Hadrat) Umar made a mention of what had fallen to the lot of people out of the material world and he said: I saw Messenger of Allah ﷺ spend the whole day being upset because of hunger and he could not get even an interior quality of dates with which he could fill his belly.  

ذَكَرَ عُمَرُ مَا أَصَابَ النَّاسُ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا فَقَالَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَظَلُّ الْيَوْمَ يَلْتَوِي مَا يَجِدُ دَقَلاً يَمْلأُ بِهِ بَطْنَهُ  

I heard an-Nuʿman - i.e., bin Basheer - say: ʿUmar ؓ mentioned what the people had acquired of worldly gains and said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remaining curled up [with hunger pangs] all day, unable to find even the worst type of dates with which to fill his stomach.  

لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَظَلُّ الْيَوْمَ يَلْتَوِي مَا يَجِدُ دَقَلًا يَمْلَأُ بِهِ بَطْنَهُ

عُمَرُ وَذَكَرَ مَا أَصَابَ النَّاسَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا «لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَلْتَوِي وَمَا يَجِدُ مِنَ الدَّقَلِ مَا يَمْلَأُ بَطْنَهُ»

«لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَظَلُّ الْيَوْمَ يَتَلَوَّى مَا يَجِدُ دَقَلًا يَمْلَأُ بَطْنَهُ»  

"لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَظَلُّ الْيَوْمَ يَلْتَوِى مِنَ الْجُوعِ مَا يَجِدُ دَقَلًا (*) يَمْلأُ بَطْنَهُ".
