People of al-Hijr are the Thamud, the Nation of Prophet Salih ᴬˢ
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by al-Hijr, he said: “Do not ask for signs. The people of Salih asked for them, and it used to come to them from this mountain pass and return by this mountain pass. But they rebelled against the command of their Lord and hamstrung it. It would drink their water one day, and they would drink its milk another day. Then they hamstrung it, and a Blast seized them. Allah destroyed everyone among them beneath the canopy of the sky except one man who was in the Sanctuary of Allah.”
It was said, “Who is he, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “He is Abu Righal.” Then when he left the Sanctuary, what befell his people befell him.
