ahmad-zuhd:647ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Wakīʿ > Sufyān

[Machine] Umar, may Allah have mercy on him, wrote to Abu Musa: "You have not attained any better deed of the Hereafter than asceticism in this worldly life. Beware of the taste and lowliness of character."  

الزهد لأحمد:٦٤٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ

كَتَبَ عُمَرُ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى أَبِي مُوسَى «إِنَّكَ لَمْ تَنَلْ عَمَلَ الْآخِرَةِ بِشَيْءٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنَ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِيَّاكَ وَمَذَاقَ الْأَخْلَاقِ وَدَنَاءَتَهَا»

"عَنْ سُفيانَ قَالَ: كتبَ عُمرُ إِلَى أَبِى موسَى الأشْعَرِىِّ: إِنَّكَ لَنْ تَنالَ عملَ الآخرةِ بشئٍ أفضلَ مِنَ الزُّهدِ في الدُّنْيَا".
