ahmad-zuhd:2119ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAffān > Abū ʿAwānah > Abū Sinān

[Machine] Abdullah ibn Abi al-Hudhayl once complained of his sins. A man said to him, "O Abu al-Mughira, aren't you pious?" He replied, "O Allah, this servant of Yours intended to draw nearer to You, so I bear witness to his hatred of sin."  

الزهد لأحمد:٢١١٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ قَالَ

شَكَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي الْهُذَيْلِ يَوْمًا ذُنُوبَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْمُغِيرَةِ أَوَلَسْتَ التَّقِيَّ؟ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ عَبْدَكَ هَذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَتَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْكَ فَإِنِّي أَشْهَدُ عَلَى مَقْتِهِ»
