I heard Mālik ibn Dīnār saying in his supplication:

"O Allah, draw our hearts towards You so that we may know You well, so that we may honor Your covenant well, and so that we may preserve Your commandments well. O Allah, mark us with the mark of faith and clothe us with the garment of piety. O Allah, we repent to You before death and meet you in peace before what must happen after. O Allah, cast upon us from You a gaze that gathers for us all goodness, both the goodness of this world and the goodness of the Hereafter."

Then, Mālik pauses in his speech and says: "Do you think that I mean by the goodness of this world the dinar and dirham? I only mean righteous deeds so that I may meet You on the day I meet You while You are pleased with me. It is with yearning and reverence towards You, O God of the heavens and God of the earth."

Then he weeps a little, and we weep with him. May Allah have mercy on him.  

سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ دِينَارٍ يَقُولُ فِي دُعَائِهِ:

اللَّهُمَّ أَقْبِلْ بِقُلُوبِنَا إِلَيْكَ حَتَّى نَعْرِفَكَ حَسَنًا وَحَتَّى نَرْعَى عَهْدَكَ حَسَنًا وَحَتَّى نَحْفَظَ وَصِيَّتَكَ حَسَنًا اللَّهُمَّ سَوِّمْنَا سِيمَاءَ الْإِيمَانِ وَأَلْبِسْنَا لِبَاسَ التَّقْوَى اللَّهُمَّ نَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ قَبْلَ الْمَمَاتِ ونُلْقِي بِالسَّلَامِ قَبْلَ اللِّزَامِ اللَّهُمَّ انْظُرْ إِلَيْنَا مِنْكَ نَظْرَةً تَجْمَعُ لَنَا بِهَا الْخَيْرَ كُلَّهُ خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا وَخَيْرَ الْآخِرَةِ

ثُمَّ يَقِفُ مَالِكٌ عَنْ كَلَامِهِ فَيَقُولُ أَتَحْسَبُونَ أَنِّي أَعْنِي خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا الدِّينَارَ وَالدِّرْهَمَ؟ إِنَّمَا أَعْنِي الْعَمَلَ الصَّالِحَ حَتَّى أَلْقَاكَ يَوْمَ أَلْقَاكَ وَأَنْتَ عَنِّي رَاضٍ رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ يَا إِلَهَ السَّمَاءِ وَإِلَهَ الْأَرْضِ

قَالَ ثُمَّ يَبْكِي بُكَاءً خَفِيفًا فَنَبْكِي مَعَهُ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ
