ahmad-zuhd:153 – ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Sufyān > Yazīd / Ibn Abū Ziyād > Zayd b. Wahb > Abū Dhar

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the wolf has consumed our livestock." The Prophet ﷺ responded, "That is not the most concerning thing for you; what I fear for you is that the world may be poured upon you like a deluge. I wish my nation did not wear gold." So I asked Zaid ibn Wahb, "What is the wolf?" He said, "The yearning for the worldly life."  

الزهد لأحمد:١٥٣ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي زِيَادٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَكَلَتْنَا الضَّبُعُ فَقَالَ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ أَخْوَفُ عَلَيْكُمْ؛ أَنْ تُصَبَّ عَلَيْكُمُ الدُّنْيَا صَبًّا فَلَيْتَ أُمَّتِي لَا يَلْبَسُونَ الذَّهَبَ فَقُلْتُ لِزَيدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ مَا الضَّبُعُ؟ قَالَ السَّنَةُ

[Machine] A Bedouin man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the wolves have attacked us." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "The wolves attacking you are not as dangerous as the worldly temptations that will come upon you. I wish my nation would not wear gold."  

أحمد:٢٣١٢٢ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ

أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَكَلَتْنَا الضَّبُعُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَيْرُ الضَّبُعِ عِنْدِي أَخْوَفُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ الضَّبُعِ إِنَّ الدُّنْيَا سَتُصَبُّ عَلَيْكُمْ صَبًّا فَيَا لَيْتَ أُمَّتِي لَا تَلْبَسُ الذَّهَبَ

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have been harmed by wolves?" He said, "That is not what I fear most for you, rather what I fear most for you is that the world is poured upon you abundantly. I wish that my nation does not wear gold."  

أحمد:٢١٥٤٧ – حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي زِيَادٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَكَلَتْنَا الضَّبُعُ؟ قَالَ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ أَخْوَفُ عِنْدِي عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَنْ تُصَبَّ عَلَيْكُمُ الدُّنْيَا صَبًّا فَلَيْتَ أُمَّتِي لَا يَلْبَسُونَ الذَّهَبَ

[Machine] While the Prophet ﷺ was delivering a sermon, a Bedouin man with disheveled hair stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have been afflicted by wolves." The Prophet ﷺ replied, "That is not what concerns me the most for you. What troubles me the most is when worldly possessions are poured upon you. I wish that my Ummah does not adorn themselves with gold."  

أحمد:٢١٣٥٣ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍعَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ

بَيْنَمَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ إِذْ قَامَ إِلَيْهِ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فِيهِ جَفَاءٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَكَلتْنَا الضَّبُعُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ أَخْوَفُ لِي عَلَيْكُمْ حِينَ تُصَبُّ عَلَيْكُمُ الدُّنْيَا صَبًّا فَيَا لَيْتَ أُمَّتِي لَا يَتَحَلَّوْنَ الذَّهَبَ

[Machine] An Arab man approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the fox has devoured our livestock, which means the year's crops. He responded, "That is not what I am most afraid of for you in this world. Rather, what I fear for you is when this world is poured upon you, and oh how I wish that my nation does not wear gold."
