Abu Musa al-Ash'ari reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Anyone who plays backgammon has rebelled against Allah and His Messenger."  

الأدب المفرد:١٢٦٩ – حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ لَعِبَ بِالنَّرْدِ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who plays backgammon disobeys Allah and His Apostle.
