(Sufyan said : The version of the narrator Sulaiman does not go back to The Prophet ﷺ . Fitr and al-Hasan reported from him ) : The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said : One who compensates is not a man who unites relationship : but the man who unites relationship is the one who joins it when the relationship is cut off.  

أبو داود:١٦٩٧ – حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ كَثِيرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ وَالْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَفِطْرٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ

سُفْيَانُ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ سُلَيْمَانُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَرَفَعَهُ فِطْرٌ وَالْحَسَنُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْسَ الْوَاصِلُ بِالْمُكَافِئِ وَلَكِنَّ الْوَاصِلَ هُوَ الَّذِي إِذَا قُطِعَتْ رَحِمُهُ وَصَلَهَا

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Al-Wasil is not the one who recompenses the good done to him by his relatives, but Al-Wasil is the one who keeps good relations with those relatives who had severed the bond of kinship with him."

the Prophet said: "Merely maintaining the ties of kinship is not adequate. But connecting the ties of kinship is when his ties to the womb are severed and he connects it."  

الترمذي:١٩٠٨ – حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا بَشِيرٌ أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَفِطْرُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ وَعَائِشَةَ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَيْسَ الْوَاصِلُ بِالْمُكَافِئِ وَلَكِنَّ الْوَاصِلَ مَنْ إِذَا قُطِعَتْ رَحِمُهُ وَصَلَهَا  

ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ الْوَاصِلِ رَحِمَهُ الَّذِي يَقَعُ عَلَيْهِ اسْمُ الْوَاصِلِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Kinship is connected to the Throne, and the one who maintains kinship is not the one who reciprocates, but the one whose ties of kinship remain even if they are severed."
