Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah! Save ʿAiyyash bin Abi Rabiʿa (from the unjust treatment of the infidels). O Allah! Save Salama bin Hisham. O Allah! Send your Punishment on (the tribe of) Mudar. O Allah! Let them suffer from years (of drought) similar to that inflicted during the life-time of Joseph."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ  

The Prophet ﷺ used to recite the following invocations during Qunut: "O Allah! Save Salama bin Hisham. O Allah! Save Al-Walid bin Al-Walid. O Allah! Save ʿAiyash bin Rabiʿa O Allah ! Save the weak Muslims. O Allah! Be very hard on Mudar tribe. O Allah! Afflict them with years (of famine) similar to the (famine) years of the time of Prophet Joseph."  

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَدْعُو فِي الْقُنُوتِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللَّهُمَّ سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ  

While the Prophet ﷺ was offering the ʿIsha' prayer, he said, "Allah hears him who sends his praises to Him," and then said before falling in prostration, "O Allah, save ʿAiyash bin Rabiʿa. O Allah, save Salama bin Hisham. O Allah, save Al-Walid bin Al-Wahd. O Allah, save the weak ones among the believers. O Allah, let Your punishment be severe on the tribe of Mudar. O Allah, inflict upon them years (of famine) like the years of Joseph."  

بَيْنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الْعِشَاءَ إِذْ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَسْجُدَ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ  

When the Prophet ﷺ said, "Sami' al-lahu liman hamidah (Allah heard him who sent his praises to Him)" in the last rakʿa of the ʿIsha' prayer, he used to invoke Allah, saying, "O Allah! Save ʿAiyash bin Abi Rabiʿa; O Allah! Save Al-Walid bin Al-Walid; O Allah! Save the weak people among the believers; O Allah! Be hard on the Tribe of Mudar; O Allah! Inflict years of drought upon them like the years (of drought) of the Prophet ﷺ Joseph."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الآخِرَةِ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْعِشَاءِ قَنَتَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ  

" Allah listened to him who praised Him," and he said in Qunut:" 0 Allah! rescue al-Walid b. al-Walid; O Allah! rescue Salama b. Hisham; O Allah! rescue 'Ayyash b. Abu Rabi'a; O Allah! rescue the helpless amongst the Muslims; O Allah! trample Mudar severely; O Allah! cause them a famine like that (which was caused at the time) of Joseph." Abu Huraira (further) said: I saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ afterwards abandoned this supplication. I, therefore said: I see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ abandoning this blessing upon them. It was raid to him (Abu Huraira): Don't you see that (those for whom was blessing invoked by the Holy Prophet) have come (i. e. they have been rescued)?  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَنَتَ بَعْدَ الرَّكْعَةِ فِي صَلاَةٍ شَهْرًا إِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ يَقُولُ فِي قُنُوتِهِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ الدُّعَاءَ بَعْدُ فَقُلْتُ أُرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَدْ تَرَكَ الدُّعَاءَ لَهُمْ قَالَ فَقِيلَ وَمَا تَرَاهُمْ قَدْ قَدِمُوا  

[Machine] "When the Prophet ﷺ would raise his head from the last prostration of the last prayer of Isha, he would supplicate and say: 'O Allah, save Al-Walid bin Al-Walid, O Allah, save Salamah bin Hisham, O Allah, save Ayyash bin Abi Rabee'ah, O Allah, save the oppressed among the believers, O Allah, strengthen Your punishment upon Mudar, O Allah, let it be years similar to the years of Yusuf.'"  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرَّكْعَةِ الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ قَنَتَ وَقَالَ اللهُمَّ نَجِّ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللهُمَّ أَنْجِ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللهُمَّ نَجِّ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللهُمَّ اشْدُدْوَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ  

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "Allah listens to the one who praises Him in the last unit of the evening prayer," he would lower his voice and say, "O Allah, protect Al-Walid bin Al-Walid, O Allah, protect Salamah bin Hisham, O Allah, protect Ayyash bin Abi Rabiah, O Allah, protect the oppressed among the believers. O Allah, strengthen your oppression against Mudar. O Allah, make the years of this (tribe) like the years of Yusuf." Abd al-Wahhab said, "Like the years of Yusuf," and Abu 'Aamir said, "O Allah, protect all of them. O Allah, protect all of them."  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ قَنَتَ وَقَالَ اللهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللهُمَّ أَنْجِ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللهُمَّ أَنْجِ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا سِنِينَ كَسِنِينَ يُوسُفَ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ وَقَالَ فِيهَا كُلِّهَا نَجِّ نَجِّ وَقَالَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ كُلِّهَا اللهُمَّ نَجِّ نَجِّ  

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited the supplication in the night prayer for a month. He said (in his supplication): O Allah, rescue al-Walid b. al-Walid, rescue Salamah b. Hisham, rescue the weak believers; O Allah, trample severely on Mudar; O Allah, cause them a famine like that of Joseph. Abu Hurairah said: One morning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ id not make supplication for them. So I told him about it. He said: You dod not see that they have come (back). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1442)  

قَنَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي صَلَاةِ الْعَتَمَةِ شَهْرًا يَقُولُ فِي قُنُوتِهِ «اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ» قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ وَأَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَمْ يَدَعْ لَهُمْ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ ﷺ «أَمَا تَرَاهُمْ قَدْ قَدِمُوا»
