That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever keeps a dog" - or: "acquires a dog" - "neither of hunting nor to guard livestock, then two Qirat are deducted from his reward, daily."

Ibn 'Umar reported Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying He who kept a dog other than one meant for hunting or for watching the herd lost out of his deeds (equal to) two qirat every day.

[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ, that he said: "Whoever adopts or in other words, owns a dog that is neither harmful nor a dog used for herding, will have two good deeds deducted from his rewards every day." It was said to him: "What about Abu Hurairah's statement regarding a dog used for farming?" He replied, "There is still another good deed deducted."

Malik related to me from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever acquires a dog other than a sheepdog or hunting dog, will have two qirats deducted from the reward of his good actions every day."
