From As-Sa'b bin Jath-thama Al-Laithi that the latter presented an onager to Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at Al-Abwa' or at Waddan, and he refused it. On noticing the signs of some unpleasant feeling of disappointment on his (As-Sab's) face, the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "I have only returned it because I am Muhrim."

أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا وَهْوَ بِالأَبْوَاءِ أَوْ بِوَدَّانَ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى مَا فِي وَجْهِهِ قَالَ إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلاَّ أَنَّا حُرُمٌ

An onager was presented to Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the place called Al-Abwa' or Waddan, but Allah's Apostle rejected it. When the Prophet ﷺ noticed the signs of sorrow on the giver's face he said, "We have not rejected your gift, but we are in the state of Ihram." (i.e. if we were not in a state of Ihram we would have accepted your gift, Fath-ul-Bari page 130, Vol. 6)

أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا وَهْوَ بِالأَبْوَاءِ أَوْ بِوَدَّانَ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى مَا فِي وَجْهِهِ قَالَ أَمَا إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلاَّ أَنَّا حُرُمٌ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked into my face (which had the mark of dejection as my present had been rejected by him) he (in order to console me) said: We have refused it only because we are in a state of Ihram.

أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا وَهُوَ بِالأَبْوَاءِ أَوْ بِوَدَّانَ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَلَمَّا أَنْ رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا فِي وَجْهِي قَالَ إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلاَّ أَنَّا حُرُمٌ

As-S'ab bin Jath-thamah informed him that the Messenger of Allah had passed him at Al-Abwa or Bawaddan. He (As-S'ab) gave him a wild donkey but he refused it. When the Messenger of Allah noticed on his face that he was upset, he said: "We would not refuse you, but we are in Ihram"

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ بِالأَبْوَاءِ أَوْ بِوَدَّانَ فَأَهْدَى لَهُ حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا فِي وَجْهِهِ مِنَ الْكَرَاهِيَةِ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ

he gave the Messenger of Allah an onager when he was in Al-Abwa or in Waddan, but the Messenger of Allah gave it back to him. "And when the Messenger of Allah saw the expression on my face he said: "We only gave it back to you because we are in Ihram.'"

وَأَهْدَيْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيَّ فَعَرَفَ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِي فَقَالَ إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنَّا حُرُمٌ

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utba ibn Masud, from Abdullah ibn Abbas, that as-Sab ibn Jaththama al-Laythi once gave a wild ass to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at al- Abwa, or Waddan, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave it back to him. However, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw the expression on the man's face he said, "We only gave it back to you because we are in ihram."

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given a wild donkey while he was at Al-Abwa, and he returned it to its owner, then he said, "We do not retaliate against you, but we are prohibited from doing so."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أُهْدِيَ لَهُ حِمَارُ وَحْشٍ وَهُوَ بِالْأَبْوَاءِ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ»

[AI] He presented a wild donkey to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , but he returned it. When he saw the rejection in my face from returning his gift, he said, "Indeed, it is not a rejection from us to you, but rather we are forbidden (to accept it)."

أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى مَا فِي وَجْهِي مِنْ رَدِّ هَدِيَّتِهِ قَالَ «أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ»

[AI] It is narrated that a man gave the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a piece of donkey meat as a gift, but he refused it and said, "We consider it forbidden."

أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ رَجُلٌ لَحْمَ حِمَارِ وَحْشٍ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ «إِنَّا حُرُمٌ»

[AI] "He gave the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , a wild donkey, but he refused it and showed his dislike on his face. He said, 'We only return it to you because we are forbidden from accepting it.'"

أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ فَرَدَّهُ فَرَأَى ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنَّا حُرُمٌ»

أَهْدَيْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيَّ فَلَمَّا رَأَى فِي وَجْهِي قَالَ «إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ»

[AI] I presented the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a wild donkey, and it was forbidden (to give as a gift). So he returned it to me, and when he saw the expression on my face, he said, "There is no returning on your part, but we are forbidden (to accept it)."

أَهْدَيْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيَّ فَلَمَّا رَأَى الَّذِي فِي وَجْهِي قَالَ «لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ»

[AI] I gifted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a wild and stubborn camel, but he returned it to me. When he saw the expression on my face, he said, "We returned it to you only because it is forbidden for us."

أَهْدَيْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ رِجْلَ حِمَارِ وَحْشٍ وَهُوَ بِوَدَّانَ فَرَدَّهَا عَلَيَّ فَلَمَّا رَأَى مَا بِوَجْهِي قَالَ «إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنَّا حُرُمٌ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given a wild donkey as a gift. He returned it to its owner, apologized to him, and said, "We are forbidden to accept this."
