[Machine] "The Day of Ashura is not the day that people claim it to be, but rather it was the day when the Kaaba was covered and the Abyssinians performed their games in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . It used to occur every year, and people would come to a certain Jew and ask him questions. When the Jew died, they came to Zaid ibn Thabit and asked him."  

الطبراني:٤٨٧٦حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَوَارِيُّ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْرَمَ ثنا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

«لَيْسَ يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ بِالْيَوْمِ الَّذِي يَقُولُهُ النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَوْمَ تُسْتَرُ فِيهِ الْكَعْبَةُ وتَقْلِسُ فِيهِ الْحَبَشَةُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ يَدُورُ فِي السَّنَةِ فَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَأْتُونَ فُلَانًا الْيَهُودِيَّ فَيَسْأَلُونَهُ فَلَمَّا مَاتَ الْيَهُودِيُّ أَتَوْا زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ فَسَأَلُوهُ»
