[Machine] That Muawiyah bin Al-Hakam As-Sulami, who was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , said: I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about certain practices that we used to do during the time of ignorance. We used to seek omens. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is something which one of you finds in his own self, so do not let it prevent you." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, we used to go to fortune-tellers." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not go to fortune-tellers."  

الطبراني:١٧٠٤٦ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ الْحَلَبِيُّ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ الرُّصَافِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيَّ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَرَأَيْتَ أُمُورًا كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ؟ كُنَّا نَتَطَيَّرُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «ذَاكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُهُ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي نَفْسِهِ فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمْ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَكُنَّا نَأْتِي الْكُهَّانَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فلَا تَأْتُوا الْكُهَّانَ»

I said: Messenger of Allah, there were things we used to do in the pre-Islamic days. We used to visit Kahins, whereupon he said: Don't visit Kahins. I said: We used to take omens. He said: That is a sort of personal whim of yours, so let it not prevent you (from doing a thing).  

مسلم:٥٣٧c – حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ وَحَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيِّ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أُمُورًا كُنَّا نَصْنَعُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ كُنَّا نَأْتِي الْكُهَّانَ قَالَ فَلاَ تَأْتُوا الْكُهَّانَ قَالَ قُلْتُ كُنَّا نَتَطَيَّرُ قَالَ ذَاكَ شَىْءٌ يَجِدُهُ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي نَفْسِهِ فَلاَ يَصُدَّنَّكُمْ

[Machine] He said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "What do you think of the things we used to do in the pre-Islamic ignorance, such as seeking omens?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is something you still find within yourselves, so do not be deceived by it." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, we used to consult the fortune-tellers." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not consult the fortune-tellers."
