[Machine] It was a very dark and rainy night, so I said to myself, "If only I had taken this opportunity to witness the darkness with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ." So, I did just that. When the Prophet ﷺ finished, he noticed me and was walking with a stick. He asked me, "What are you doing here at this hour, Qatadah?" I replied, "I took the chance to pray with you, O Messenger of Allah." He then gave me the stick and said, "The devil was following you to your home. Take this stick and hold onto it until you reach your house. Take it from behind the house and strike the devil with it." I left the mosque, and the stick shone like a candle, giving off light. I used it to guide myself and then went to my family. I found them asleep, so I looked in the corner and saw a hedgehog. I kept hitting it with the stick until it ran away.  

كَانَتْ لَيْلَةٌ شَدِيدَةُ الظُّلْمَةِ وَالْمَطَرِ فَقُلْتُ لَوْ أَنِّي اغْتَنَمْتُ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ شُهُودَ الْعَتَمَةِ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَفَعَلْتُ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبْصَرَنِي وَمَعَهُ عُرْجُونٌ يَمْشِي عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ يَا قَتَادَةُ هَهُنَا هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ؟» قُلْتُ اغْتَنَمْتُ شُهُودَ الصَّلَاةِ مَعَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهُ فَأَعْطَانِيَ الْعُرْجُونَ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ خَلْفَكَ فِي أَهْلِكَ فَاذْهَبْ بِهَذَا الْعُرْجُونِ فَأَمْسَكْ بِهِ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَ بَيْتَكَ فَخُذْهُ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الْبَيْتِ فَاضْرِبْهُ بِالْعُرْجُونِ» فَخَرَجْتُ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَأَضَاءَ الْعُرْجُونُ مِثْلَ الشَّمْعَةِ نُورًا فَاسْتَضَأْتُ بِهِ فَأَتَيْتُ أَهْلِي فَوَجَدْتُهُمْ رُقُودًا فَنَظَرْتُ فِي الزَّاوِيَةِ فَإِذَا فِيهَا قُنْفُذٌ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَضْرِبُهُ بِالْعُرْجُونِ حَتَّى خَرَجَ
