[Machine] "According to Ibn Abbas, it was not appropriate for a prophet to have captives. He recited until he reached the verse 'a severe punishment' referring to the spoils of the Battle of Badr before they were distributed among the Muslims. The Prophet said, 'If it were not for the fact that I do not punish those who disobey me before I gain ascendancy over them, I would have inflicted a severe punishment upon you for what you took.'"  

الطبراني:١١٣٩٧حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ {مَا كَانَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ أَسْرَى} فَقَرَأَ حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَ {عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ} يَعْنِي غَنَائِمَ بَدْرٍ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُحِلَّهَا لَهُمْ يَقُولُ «لَوْلَا أَنِّي لَا أُعَذِّبُ مَنْ عَصَانِي حَتَّى أَتَقَدَّمُ إِلَيْهِ» {لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَخَذْتُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ}
