I said: Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who has closely plaited hair on my head; should I undo it for taking a bath, because of sexual intercourse? He (the Holy Prophet) said: No, it is enough for you to throw three handfuls of water on your head and then pour water over yourself, and you shall be purified.

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي فَأَنْقُضُهُ لِغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ قَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِي عَلَى رَأْسِكِ ثَلاَثَ حَثَيَاتٍ ثُمَّ تُفِيضِينَ عَلَيْكِ الْمَاءَ فَتَطْهُرِينَ

one of the Muslims asked, and Zubair reported: Umm Salamah (herself) asked: Messenger of Allah. I am a women who keeps her hair closely plaited; should I undo it when I wash after sexual defilement? He replied (no), it is enough for you to throw three handfuls over it. Then pour water over all your body and will be purified.

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ لِلْجَنَابَةِ قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْفِنِي عَلَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا وَقَالَ زُهَيْرٌ تَحْثِي عَلَيْهِ ثَلاَثَ حَثَيَاثٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ثُمَّ تُفِيضِي عَلَى سَائِرِ جَسَدِكِ فَإِذَا أَنْتِ قَدْ طَهُرْتِ

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am woman with tight braids on my head, should I undo it to perform Ghusl for Janabah? He said: 'No. It is sufficient that you only pour three scoops of water (with hands held together) over your head, then pour water over the rest of your body, to be purified.'" Or he said: "Then you will be purified."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ لِغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ قَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِينَ عَلَى رَأْسِكِ ثَلاَثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ثُمَّ تُفِيضِينَ عَلَى سَائِرِ جَسَدِكِ الْمَاءَ فَتَطْهُرِينَ أَوْ قَالَ فَإِذَا أَنْتِ قَدْ تَطَهَّرْتِ

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman with tightly braided hair; should I undo it when performing Ghusl from Janabah?' He said: 'No it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over your body.'"

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ؓ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهَا عِنْدَ غَسْلِهَا مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِي عَلَى رَأْسِكِ ثَلاَثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ثُمَّ تُفِيضِينَ عَلَى جَسَدِكِ

"I said, O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman with tight braids. Should I undo them when I take a bath to cleanse myself from the state of sexual impurity?" He said: "Rather it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over yourself, and you will be purified," or he said: "In that case you would have become purified."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ لِغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِي عَلَيْهِ ثَلاَثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ثُمَّ تُفِيضِي عَلَيْكِ مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَتَطْهُرِينَ أَوْ قَالَ فَإِذَا أَنْتِ قَدْ طَهُرْتِ

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman with very thick hair. Should I unbind it when performing ritual bathing from sexual impurity?" He replied, "It is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over your head."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ عِنْدَ الْغُسْلِ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ؟ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ ثَلَاثُ حَفَنَاتٍ تَصُبِّينَهَا عَلَى رَأْسِكِ

"I said, O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman with tight braids. Should I undo them when I take a bath to cleanse myself from the state of sexual impurity?" He said: "Rather it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over yourself, and you will be purified," or he said: "In that case you would have become purified." أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَحُلُّهُ لِغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ؟ فَقَالَ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِي عَلَى رَأْسِكِ ثَلَاثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ثُمَّ تُفِيضِي عَلَيْكِ الْمَاءَ فَإِذَا أَنْتِ قَدْ طَهُرْتِ»

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who has strong braids on my head. Should I undo them for (performing) janaba (major ritual impurity)?" He said, "No, it is sufficient for you to take two handfuls (of water), then pour it over your skin, and you will be purified."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ لِلْجَنَابَةِ؟ قَالَ «لَا إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَأْخُذِي بِكَفَّيْكِ حَفَنَاتٍ ثُمَّ تَصُبِّينَ عَلَى جِلْدَكِ الْمَاءَ فَتَطْهُرِينَ»

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman with tightly braided hair; should I undo it when performing Ghusl from Janabah?' He said: 'No it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over your body.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 241)

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ شَدِيدَةُ ضَفْرِ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ عِنْدَ غَسْلِهِا مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْفِنِي عَلَى رَأْسِكِ ثَلَاثَ حَفَنَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ثُمَّ تُفِيضِي عَلَى جَسَدِكِ»

"I said, O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman with tight braids. Should I undo them when I take a bath to cleanse myself from the state of sexual impurity?" [AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman with extremely tangled hair or she said, 'I have head lice.' Should I undo my hair for Janabah (major ritual impurity) or menstruation?" He replied, "No, it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water on your head, then you have become purified."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشَدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَوْ قَالَتْ عَقْصَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ لِلْجَنَابَةِ وَالْحَيْضَةِ قَالَ لَا إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تُفْرِغِي عَلَيْكِ ثَلَاثَ حَفَنَاتٍ ثُمَّ قَدْ طَهُرْتِ

"لَا، إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِى عَلَى رَأسِكِ ثَلَاثَ حَثَيَات، ثُمَّ تُفِيضِينَ عَلَيْك الْمَاءَ فتَطهُرِينَ".

"قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ: إنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَضْفُرُ رَأسِي فَأَنْقُضُهُ لِغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ؟

قَالَ: إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكَ مِنْ ذَلِكِ أَنْ تْحثِي بِكَفَّيْكِ ثَلَاثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ، ثُمَّ تُفِيضِي عَلَيْكِ مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَتَطْهُرِينَ، أَوْ فَإِذَا أَنْتِ قَدْ طَهُرْتِ".
