The slave-mother of Ibrahim ibn AbdurRahman ibn Awf asked Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ: I am a woman having a long border of clothe and I walk in filthy place; (then what should I do?). Umm Salamah replied: The Messenger of Allah ( peace be upon him) said: What comes after it cleanses it.

أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُطِيلُ ذَيْلِي وَأَمْشِي فِي الْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ

"I said to Umm Salamah: 'Indeed I am a woman with lengthy hems, and I walk in places of filth.' So she said: 'Messenger of Allah said: "It is purified by what comes after it."

قُلْتُ لأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُطِيلُ ذَيْلِي وَأَمْشِي فِي الْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ فَقَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ نَتَوَضَّأُ مِنَ الْمَوْطَإِ

"I am a woman whose hem is lengthy, and I may walk through a dirty place. The Messenger of Allah said: 'That which comes after it purifies it.'"

أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُطِيلُ ذَيْلِي فَأَمْشِي فِي الْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ فَقَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ

"I am a woman whose hem is lengthy, and I may walk through a dirty place. The Messenger of Allah said: 'That which comes after it purifies it.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 531)

إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُطِيلُ ذَيْلِي فَأَمْشِي فِي الْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ؟ قَالَتْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ» قُلْتُ لِأَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ تَأْخُذُ بِهَذَا؟ قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي

[AI] I used to walk behind my father and he would tell me to go to dirty places and clean places. So I entered upon Umm Salamah and asked her about that. She said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whatever comes after it purifies it.'"

كُنْتُ أَجُرُّ ذَيْلِي فَأَمُرُّ بِالْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ وَالْمَكَانِ الطَّيِّبِ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Muhammad ibn Umara from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim that the mother of the son of Ibrahim ibn Abd ar- Rahman ibn Awf questioned Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I am a woman who wears a long skirt and (sometimes) I walk in dirty places." Umm Salama replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'What follows (i.e. clean places) purifies it.' "

أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُطِيلُ ذَيْلِي وَأَمْشِي فِي الْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ

[AI] Al-Qa'nabi narrated from Malik, from Muhammad ibn 'Umarah ibn Hazm, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith al-Taymi, from Umm Walad, the daughter of Ibrahim ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Auf, from Umm Salamah, that she asked her (Umm Walad) and she said, "Verily, I am a woman with a long tail (i.e. I have a lot of hair that extends to my backside) and I walk in dirty places." Umm Salamah said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "She should purify it (i.e. her hair) afterwards."

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ حَزْمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أُمِّ وَلَدٍ لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْهَا فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُطِيلُ ذَيْلِي وَأَمْشِي فِي الْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ»
