"عَنْ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ الْمَدينَةَ جَاءَتْ جُهَيْنَةُ فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّكَ قَدْ نَزَلتَ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا، فَأَوْثِقْ لَنَا حَتَّى نَأمَنَكَ وَتَأَمَننَا، فَأَوْثَقَ لَهُمْ وَلَمْ يُسْلِمُوا فَبَعَثَنَا رسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِى رَجَبٍ وَلَا نَكُونُ مِائَةً، وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُغِيرَ عَلَى حَىٍّ مِنْ كِنَاَنَة (إلى حى) جُهَيْنَةَ، فَأَغَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم، وَكَانُوا كثِيرًا فَلَجَأنَا إِلَى جُهَيْنَةَ وَشِعْبِهَا فَقَالُوا: لِمَ تُقَاتِلُونَ فِى الشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ؟ فَقُلْنَا: إِنَّمَا نُقَاتِلُ مَنْ أَخْرَجَنَا مِنَ الْبَلَدِ الْحَرَامِ فِى الشَّهْرِ الْحَرامِ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ: مَا تَرَوْنَ؟ قَالُوا: نَأتِى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَنُخْبِرُهُ، وقَالَ قَوْمٌ: لَا، بَلْ نُقِيمُ ههُنَا، وَقُلْتُ أنَا فِى أُنَاسٍ مَعِى لَا، بَلْ نَأتِى عِيرَ قُرَيْشٍ هَذِهِ فَنُصِيبُهَا فَانْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى الْعِيرِ، وَانْطَلَقَ أَصْحَابُنَا إِلَى النَّبىِّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَروُهُ الْخَبَرَ، فَقَامَ غَضْبَانَ مُحْمَرّا لَوْنُهُ وَوَجْهُهُ، فَقَالَ: ذَهَبْتُم مِنْ عِنْدِى جَمِيعًا وجْئتُمْ مُتَفَرِّقِينَ، إِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُم الفُرْقَةُ، لأَبْعَثَنَّ عَلَيْكُم رَجُلًا لَيْسَ بِخَيْرِكُم، أَصْبَرَكُم عَلَى الْجُوعِ وَالْعَطَشِ فَبَعَثَ عَلَيْنَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ جَحْشٍ الأَسَدِىَّ، فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ أَمِيرٍ فِى الإِسْلَامِ".

[AI] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina, Juhaynah came to him and said: You have settled among us, so give us your pledge until we come to you, and grant us security. So he gave them his pledge, and they accepted Islam. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us in Rajab, when we were less than a hundred, and he commanded us to raid a clan of Banu Kinanah near Juhaynah. So we raided them, and they were many. We sought refuge with Juhaynah, and they protected us, and said: Why are you fighting in the sacred month? We said: We are only fighting those who drove us out of the Sacred Land in the sacred month. Then some of us said to others: What do you think? Some of us said: Let us go to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ and inform him. And some people said: No, rather we will stay here. And I said, among some men with me: No, rather let us go to a Quraysh caravan and cut it off. So we set out for the caravan, and at that time the spoils were such that whoever took something, it belonged to him. So we set out for the caravan, and our companions went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him of the matter. He stood up angry, his face red, and said, "Did you all leave from my presence together and come back separately! Those before you were only destroyed by division. I will surely appoint over you a man who is not the best of you, but is the most patient of you in hunger and thirst." Then he appointed over us Abdullah ibn Jahsh al-Asadi, and he was the first commander appointed in Islam.

لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ، جَاءَتْهُ جُهَيْنَةُ، فَقَالُوا: إِنَّكَ قَدْ نَزَلْتَ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا، فَأَوْثِقْ لَنَا حَتَّى نَأْتِيَكَ وَتُؤْمِنَّا. فَأَوْثَقَ لَهُمْ، فَأَسْلَمُوا. قَالَ: فَبَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي رَجَبٍ، وَلَا نَكُونُ مِائَةً، وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُغِيرَ عَلَى حَيٍّ مِنْ بَنِي كِنَانَةَ إِلَى جَنْبِ جُهَيْنَةَ، فَأَغَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ، وَكَانُوا كَثِيرًا، فَلَجَأْنَا إِلَى جُهَيْنَةَ، فَمَنَعُونَا، وَقَالُوا: لِمَ تُقَاتِلُونَ فِي الشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ؟ فَقُلْنَا: إِنَّمَا نُقَاتِلُ مَنِ أَخْرَجَنَا مِنَ الْبَلَدِ الْحَرَامِ فِي الشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ. فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ: مَا تَرَوْنَ؟ فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا: نَأْتِي نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ فَنُخْبِرُهُ. وَقَالَ قَوْمٌ: لَا، بَلْ نُقِيمُ هَاهُنَا. وَقُلْتُ أَنَا فِي أُنَاسٍ مَعِي: لَا، بَلْ نَأْتِي عِيرَ قُرَيْشٍ فَنَقْتَطِعُهَا. فَانْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى الْعِيرِ، وَكَانَ الْفَيْءُ إِذْ ذَاكَ مَنْ أَخَذَ شَيْئًا فَهُوَ لَهُ. فَانْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى الْعِيرِ، وَانْطَلَقَ أَصْحَابُنَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ الْخَبَرَ، فَقَامَ غَضْبَانَ مُحْمَرَّ الْوَجْهِ، فَقَالَ «أَذَهَبْتُمْ مِنْ عِنْدِي جَمِيعًا وَجِئْتُمْ مُتَفَرِّقِينَ! إِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمُ الْفُرْقَةُ، لَأَبْعَثَنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ رَجُلًا لَيْسَ بِخَيْرِكُمْ، أَصْبَرُكُمْ عَلَى الْجُوعِ وَالْعَطَشِ». فَبَعَثَ عَلَيْنَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ جَحْشٍ الْأَسَدِيَّ، فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ أَمِيرٍ أُمِّرَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ.
