Yahya said that Malik related from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah ibn Umar from his father that Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "What's the matter with men who have intercourse with their slave- girls and then dismiss them? No slave-girl comes to me whose master confesses that he has had intercourse with her but that I connect her child to him, whether or not he has practised coitus interruptus or stopped having intercourse with her."
[Machine] What is wrong with men who have relations with their wives and then abandon them, refusing to receive a child unless its father admits that it is from him? If the father admits, then I will attribute the child to him. Otherwise, they should separate. And I, Malik, heard from Nafi' who heard from Safiyyah, the daughter of Abu 'Ubayd, who heard from 'Umar, regarding the sending of children, it is similar in meaning to the hadith of Ibn Shihab, narrated by Salim.
