"حَرِيمُ الْبِئْر أَرْبَعُونَ ذرَاعًا مِن جَوَانِبِهَا كُلِّهَا إِلَّا أَعْطانَ الإِبِلِ وَالْغَنَمِ، وَابنُ السَّبِيلِ أَوَّلُ شَارِبٍ، وَلَا يُمْنَعُ فَضْلُ الْمَاءِ لِيُمْنَعَ بِهِ الْكَلأُ".  

[حم] أحمد [ق] البيهقى في السنن عن أَبى هريرة (وفى سند أَحمد رجل لم يُسَمَّ، وبقية رجاله ثقات)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The area around the well for the animals is forty cubits in all directions. It is designated for giving water to camels, sheep, and travelers. The first to drink from it is not prohibited, so that the excess water can be prevented from causing harm."
