"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited breathing in the vessel, or blowing into it."
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ يُتَنَفَّسَ فِي الإِنَاءِ أَوْ يُنْفَخَ فِيهِ
2.15 Permission to Drink While Standing
٢۔١٥ باب بيان جواز الشرب قائماً وبيان الأكمل والأفضل الشرب قاعداً
ʿAlī saw the Prophet ﷺ drink standing up
Ali came to the gate of the courtyard (of the Mosque) and drank (water) while he was standing and said, "Some people dislike to drink while standing, but I saw the Prophet ﷺ doing (drinking water) as you have seen me doing now."
أَتَى عَلِيٌّ ؓ عَلَى باب الرَّحَبَةِ فَشَرِبَ قَائِمًا فَقَالَ: إِنَّ نَاسًا يَكْرَهُ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنْ يَشْرَبَ وَهْوَ قَائِمٌ، وَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَعَلَ كَمَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي فَعَلْتُ۔
"We would eat during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while we were walking, and we would drink while we were standing."
كُنَّا نَأْكُلُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نَمْشِي وَنَشْرَبُ وَنَحْنُ قِيَامٌ
From his father, from his grandfather who said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drinking while standing and sitting."
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَشْرَبُ قَائِمًا وَقَاعِدًا
that Allah's Apostle ( ﷺ) forbade that a person should drink while standing. Qatada reported: We said to him: What about eating? Thereupon he (Anas) said: That is even worse and more detestable (abominable).
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ نَهَى أَنْ يَشْرَبَ الرَّجُلُ قَائِمًا قَالَ قَتَادَةُ فَقُلْنَا فَالأَكْلُ فَقَالَ ذَاكَ أَشَرُّ أَوْ أَخْبَثُ
None of you should drink while standing; and if anyone forgets, he must vomit.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ يَشْرَبَنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ قَائِمًا فَمَنْ نَسِيَ فَلْيَسْتَقِئْ
2.16 Excellence of the Cupbearer Drinking Last
٢۔١٦ باب استحباب كون ساقي القوم آخرهم شرباً
That the Prophet ﷺ said: "The one providing water for people is the last of them to drink." He said: There is something on this topic from Ibn Abi Awfa.
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ سَاقِي الْقَوْمِ آخِرُهُمْ شُرْبًا قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى
2.17 Permissibility of Drinking Water from all Types of Clean Vessels Except Those of Gold and Silver
٢۔١٧ باب جواز الشرب من جميع الأواني الطاهرة غير الذهب والفضة وجواز الكرع - وهو الشرب بالفم من النهر وغيره- بغير إناء ولا يد وتحريم استعمال إناء الذهب والفضة في الشرب والأكل والطهارة وسائر وجوه الاستعمال
It was the time for prayer, and those whose houses were near got up and went to their people (to perform ablution), and there remained some people (sitting). Then a painted stove pot (Mikhdab) containing water was brought to Messenger of Allah ﷺs The pot was small, not broad enough for one to spread one's hand in; yet all the people performed ablution. (The sub narrator said, "We asked Anas, 'How many persons were you?' Anas replied 'We were eighty or more"). (It was one of the miracles of Messenger of Allah ﷺ).
حَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَقَامَ مَنْ كَانَ قَرِيبَ الدَّارِ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ وَبَقِيَ قَوْمٌ فَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِمِخْضَبٍ مِنْ حِجَارَةٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ فَصَغُرَ الْمِخْضَبُ أَنْ يَبْسُطَ فِيهِ كَفَّهُ فَتَوَضَّأَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ قُلْنَا كَمْ كُنْتُمْ قَالَ ثَمَانِينَ وَزِيَادَةً
Anas said, "The Prophet ﷺ asked for water and a tumbler with a broad base and no so deep, containing a small quantity of water, was brought to him whereby he put his fingers in it." Anas further said, ' noticed the water springing out from amongst his fingers." Anas added, ' estimated that the people who performed ablution with it numbered between seventy to eighty."
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ دَعَا بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَأُتِيَ بِقَدَحٍ رَحْرَاحٍ فِيهِ شَىْءٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَوَضَعَ أَصَابِعَهُ فِيهِ قَالَ أَنَسٌ فَجَعَلْتُ أَنْظُرُ إِلَى الْمَاءِ يَنْبُعُ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ أَنَسٌ فَحَزَرْتُ مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ مَا بَيْنَ السَّبْعِينَ إِلَى الثَّمَانِينَ
"The Messenger of Allah came to us, and we brought water out to him in a vessel of brass, and he performed ablution with it."
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ صَاحِبِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَخْرَجْنَا لَهُ مَاءً فِي تَوْرٍ مِنْ صُفْرٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ بِهِ
The Prophet ﷺ went to visit a man of the Ansar accompanied by one of his Companions who was watering his garden. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If you have any water which has remained over night in a skin (we should like it), or shall sip (from a streamlet).
دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَرَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ وَهُوَ يُحَوِّلُ الْمَاءَ فِي حَائِطِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ مَاءٌ بَاتَ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ فِي شَنٍّ وَإِلاَّ كَرَعْنَا قَالَ بَلْ عِنْدِي مَاءٌ بَاتَ فِي شَنٍّ
While Hudhaita was at Mada'in, he asked for water. The chief of the village brought him a silver vessel. Hudhaifa threw it away and said, "I have thrown it away because I told him not to use it, but he has not stopped using it. The Prophet ﷺ forbade us to wear clothes of silk or Dibaj, and to drink in gold or silver utensils, and said, 'These things are for them (unbelievers) in this world and for you (Muslims) in the Hereafter.' "
كَانَ حُذَيْفَةُ بِالْمَدَايِنِ فَاسْتَسْقَى فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانٌ بِقَدَحِ فِضَّةٍ فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَرْمِهِ إِلاَّ أَنِّي نَهَيْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَنْتَهِ وَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَانَا عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَالشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَقَالَ هُنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَهْىَ لَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not drink in gold or silver utensils, and do not wear clothes of silk or Dibaj, for these things are for them (unbelievers) in this world and for you in the Hereafter."
خَرَجْنَا مَعَ حُذَيْفَةَ وَذَكَرَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ تَشْرَبُوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَلاَ تَلْبَسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ
He who drank in vessels of gold or silver he in fact drank down in his belly the fire of Hell.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ شَرِبَ فِي إِنَاءٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ فَإِنَّمَا يُجَرْجِرُ فِي بَطْنِهِ نَارًا مِنْ جَهَنَّمَ
