0.59. Excellence of Generosity and Spending in a Good cause with Reliance on Allah

٠.٥٩۔ باب الكرم والجود والإنفاق فى وجوه الخير ثقة بالله تعالى

(543) bukhari:73al-Ḥumaydī > Sufyān > Ismāʿīl b. Abū Khālid > Ghayr Mā > al-Zuhrī > Qays b. Abū Ḥāzim > ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not wish to be like anyone except in two cases. (The first is) A person, whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously; (the second is) the one whom Allah has given wisdom (the Holy Qur'an) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others." (Fath-al-Bari page 177 Vol. 1)  

(٥٤٣) البخاري:٧٣حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا حَدَّثَنَاهُ الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَيْسَ بْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَسُلِّطَ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَرَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ الْحِكْمَةَ فَهْوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا  

(543) bukhari:1409Muḥammad b. al-Muthanná > Yaḥyá > Ismāʿīl > Qays > Ibn Masʿūd

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "There is no envy except in two: a person whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom (i.e. religious knowledge) and he gives his decisions accordingly and teaches it to the others."  

(٥٤٣) البخاري:١٤٠٩حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسٌ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَسَلَّطَهُ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَرَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ حِكْمَةً فَهْوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا  

(543) bukhari:7141Shihāb b. ʿAbbād > Ibrāhīm b. Ḥumayd > Ismāʿīl > Qays > ʿAbdullāh

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not wish to be like anyone, except in two cases: (1) A man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously. (2) A man whom Allah has given wisdom (knowledge of the Qur'an and the Hadith) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others."  

(٥٤٣) البخاري:٧١٤١حَدَّثَنَا شِهَابُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَسَلَّطَهُ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَآخَرُ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ حِكْمَةً فَهْوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not wish to be like anybody except in two cases: The case of a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and that of a man whom Allah has given religious wisdom (i.e., Qur'an and Sunna) and he gives his verdicts according to it and teaches it." (to others i.e., religious knowledge of Qur'an and Sunna (Prophet's Traditions)). "  

(٥٤٣) البخاري:٧٣١٦حَدَّثَنَا شِهَابُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَسُلِّطَ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَآخَرُ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ حِكْمَةً فَهْوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا  

(544) bukhari:6442ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣ from my father > al-Aʿmash > Ibrāhīm al-Taymī > al-Ḥārith b. Sūwayd > ʿAbdullāh

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Who among you considers the wealth of his heirs dearer to him than his own wealth?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! There is none among us but loves his own wealth more." The Prophet ﷺ said, "So his wealth is whatever he spends (in Allah's Cause) during his life (on good deeds) while the wealth of his heirs is whatever he leaves after his death."  

(٥٤٤) البخاري:٦٤٤٢حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَيُّكُمْ مَالُ وَارِثِهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ مَالِهِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا مِنَّا أَحَدٌ إِلاَّ مَالُهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَإِنَّ مَالَهُ مَا قَدَّمَ وَمَالُ وَارِثِهِ مَا أَخَّرَ  

(545) bukhari:1417Sulaymān b. Ḥarb > Shuʿbah > Abū Isḥāq > ʿAbdullāh b. Maʿqil > ʿAdī b. Ḥātim

I heard the the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Protect yourself from Hellfire even by giving half a date ˹in charity˺."  

(٥٤٥) البخاري:١٤١٧حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَعْقِلٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَدِيَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ ؓ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ۔»  

(546) muslim:2311aAbū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah And ʿAmrw al-Nāqid > Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah > Ibn al-Munkadir > Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh

It never happened that Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked for anything and he said: No.  

(٥٤٦) مسلم:٢٣١١aحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

مَا سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ شَيْئًا قَطُّ فَقَالَ لاَ  

(548) bukhari:5352Ismāʿīl > Mālik > Abū al-Zinād > al-Aʿraj > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah said, 'O son of Adam! Spend, and I shall spend on you."  

(٥٤٨) البخاري:٥٣٥٢حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ أَنْفِقْ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ أُنْفِقْ عَلَيْكَ  

(549) bukhari:12ʿAmr b. Khālid > al-Layth > Yazīd > Abū al-Khayr > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr

A man asked the Prophet ﷺ , "What sort of deeds or (what qualities of) Islam are good?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not Know (See Hadith No. 27).  

(٥٤٩) البخاري:١٢حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ؓ

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَىُّ الإِسْلاَمِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ تُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ وَتَقْرَأُ السَّلاَمَ عَلَى مَنْ عَرَفْتَ وَمَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ  

(549) bukhari:28Qutaybah > al-Layth > Yazīd b. Abū Ḥabīb > Abū al-Khayr > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr

A person asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ . "What (sort of) deeds in or (what qualities of) Islam are good?" He replied, "To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you don't know."  

(٥٤٩) البخاري:٢٨حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَىُّ الإِسْلاَمِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ تُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ وَتَقْرَأُ السَّلاَمَ عَلَى مَنْ عَرَفْتَ وَمَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ  

(549) bukhari:6236ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > al-Layth > Yazīd > Abū al-Khayr > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr

A man asked the Prophet, "What Islamic traits are the best?" The Prophet said, "Feed the people, and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not know."  

(٥٤٩) البخاري:٦٢٣٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَىُّ الإِسْلاَمِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ تُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ وَتَقْرَأُ السَّلاَمَ عَلَى مَنْ عَرَفْتَ وَعَلَى مَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ  

(551) muslim:1036Naṣr b. ʿAlī al-Jahḍamī And Zuhayr b. Ḥarb Waʿabd b. Ḥumayd > ʿUmar b. Yūnus > ʿIkrimah b. ʿAmmār > Shaddād > Abū Umāmah

O son of Adam, it is better for you if you spend your surplus (wealth), but if you withhold it, it is evil for you. There is (however) no reproach for you (if you withhold means necessary) for a living. And begin (charity) with your dependents; and the upper hand is better than the lower hand.  

(٥٥١) مسلم:١٠٣٦حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَدَّادٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنَّكَ أَنْ تَبْذُلَ الْفَضْلَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَأَنْ تُمْسِكَهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ وَلاَ تُلاَمُ عَلَى كَفَافٍ وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى  

(552) muslim:2312aʿĀṣim b. al-Naḍr al-Taymī > Khālid / Ibn al-Ḥārith > Ḥumayd > Mūsá b. Anas from his father

It never happened that Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked anything for the sake of Islam and he did not give that. There came to him a person and he gave him a large flock (of sheep and goats) and he went back to his people and said: My people, embrace Islam, for Muhammad gives so much charity as if he has no fear of want.  

(٥٥٢) مسلم:٢٣١٢aوَحَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ التَّيْمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

مَا سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ شَيْئًا إِلاَّ أَعْطَاهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَأَعْطَاهُ غَنَمًا بَيْنَ جَبَلَيْنِ فَرَجَعَ إِلَى قَوْمِهِ فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَسْلِمُوا فَإِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا يُعْطِي عَطَاءً لاَ يَخْشَى الْفَاقَةَ  

(552) muslim:2312bAbū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah > Yazīd b. Hārūn > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Thābit > Anas

O people, embrace Islam. By Allah, Muhammad donates so much as if he did not fear want. Anas said that the person embraced Islam for the sake of the world but later he became Muslim until Islam became dearer to him than the world and what it contains.  

(٥٥٢) مسلم:٢٣١٢bحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ غَنَمًا بَيْنَ جَبَلَيْنِ فَأَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ فَأَتَى قَوْمَهُ فَقَالَ أَىْ قَوْمِ أَسْلِمُوا فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا لَيُعْطِي عَطَاءً مَا يَخَافُ الْفَقْرَ فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ إِنْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ لَيُسْلِمُ مَا يُرِيدُ إِلاَّ الدُّنْيَا فَمَا يُسْلِمُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ الإِسْلاَمُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا عَلَيْهَا  

(553) muslim:1056ʿUthmān b. Abū Shaybah And Zuhayr b. Ḥarb Waʾisḥāq b. Ibrāhīm al-Ḥanẓalī > Isḥāq > al-Ākharān > Jarīr > al-Aʿmash > Abū Wāʾil > Salmān b. Rabīʿah > ʿUmar

Messenger of Allah, I swear by God, the others besides them were more deserving than these (to whom you gave charity). He said: They had in fact left no other alternative for me. but (that they should) either beg importunately from me or they would regard me as a miser, but I am not a miser.  

(٥٥٣) مسلم:١٠٥٦حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ الآخَرَانِ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَ قَالَ

عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَسْمًا فَقُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَغَيْرُ هَؤُلاَءِ كَانَ أَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ إِنَّهُمْ خَيَّرُونِي أَنْ يَسْأَلُونِي بِالْفُحْشِ أَوْ يُبَخِّلُونِي فَلَسْتُ بِبَاخِلٍ  

(554) bukhari:2821Abū al-Yamān > Shuʿayb > al-Zuhrī > ʿUmar b. Muḥammad b. Jubayr b. Muṭʿim > Muḥammad b. Jubayr > Jubayr b. Muṭʿim

Jubair bin Mutʿim told me that while he was in the company of Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the people returning from Hunain, some people (bedouins) caught hold of the Prophet ﷺ and started begging of him so much so that he had to stand under a (kind of thorny tree (i.e. Samurah) and his cloak was snatched away. The Prophet ﷺ stopped and said, "Give me my cloak. If I had as many camels as these thorny trees, I would have distributed them amongst you and you will not find me a miser or a liar or a coward."  

(٥٥٤) البخاري:٢٨٢١حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي جُبَيْرُ بْنُ مُطْعِمٍ

أَنَّهُ بَيْنَمَا هُوَ يَسِيرُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ مَقْفَلَهُ مِنْ حُنَيْنٍ فَعَلِقَهُ النَّاسُ يَسْأَلُونَهُ حَتَّى اضْطَرُّوهُ إِلَى سَمُرَةٍ فَخَطِفَتْ رِدَاءَهُ فَوَقَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَعْطُونِي رِدَائِي لَوْ كَانَ لِي عَدَدُ هَذِهِ الْعِضَاهِ نَعَمًا لَقَسَمْتُهُ بَيْنَكُمْ ثُمَّ لاَ تَجِدُونِي بَخِيلاً وَلاَ كَذُوبًا وَلاَ جَبَانًا  

(554) bukhari:3148ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. ʿAbdullāh al-Ūwaysī > Ibrāhīm b. Saʿd > Ṣāliḥ > Ibn Shihāb > ʿUmar b. Muḥammad b. Jubayr b. Muṭʿim > Muḥammad b. Jubayr > Jubayr b. Muṭʿim

That while he was with Messenger of Allah ﷺ who was accompanied by the people on their way back from Hunain, the bedouins started begging things of Messenger of Allah ﷺ so much so that they forced him to go under a Samura tree where his loose outer garment was snatched away. On that, Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and said to them, "Return my garment to me. If I had as many camels as these trees, I would have distributed them amongst you; and you will not find me a miser or a liar or a coward."  

(٥٥٤) البخاري:٣١٤٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأُوَيْسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي جُبَيْرُ بْنُ مُطْعِمٍ

أَنَّهُ بَيْنَا هُوَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ مُقْبِلاً مِنْ حُنَيْنٍ عَلِقَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ الأَعْرَابُ يَسْأَلُونَهُ حَتَّى اضْطَرُّوهُ إِلَى سَمُرَةٍ فَخَطِفَتْ رِدَاءَهُ فَوَقَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَعْطُونِي رِدَائِي فَلَوْ كَانَ عَدَدُ هَذِهِ الْعِضَاهِ نَعَمًا لَقَسَمْتُهُ بَيْنَكُمْ ثُمَّ لاَ تَجِدُونِي بَخِيلاً وَلاَ كَذُوبًا وَلاَ جَبَانًا  

Allah raises the one who lowers himself

(555) muslim:2588Yaḥyá b. Ayyūb And Qutaybah And Ibn Ḥujr > Ismāʿīl Wahū Ibn Jaʿfar > al-ʿAlāʾ from his father > Abū Hurayrah

from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "(1) Charity does not decrease wealth, (2) no one forgives another except that Allah increases his honor, and (3) no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status."  

(٥٥٥) مسلم:٢٥٨٨حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ وَقُتَيْبَةُ وَابْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «(١) مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ، (٢) وَمَا زَادَ اللَّهُ عَبْدًا بِعَفْوٍ إِلاَّ عِزًّا، (٣) وَمَا تَوَاضَعَ أَحَدٌ لِلَّهِ إِلاَّ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ۔»  

(556) tirmidhi:2325Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl > Abū Nuʿaym > ʿUbādah b. Muslim > Yūnus b. Khabbāb > Saʿīd al-Ṭāʾī Abū al-Bakhtarī > Abū Kabshah al-Anmārī

"There are three things for which I swear and narrate to you about, so remember it." He said: "The wealth of a slave (of Allah) shall not be decreased by charity, no slave (of Allah) suffers injustice and is patient with it except that Allah adds to his honor; no slave (of Allah) opens up a door to begging except that Allah opens a door for him to poverty"- or a statement similar- "And I shall narrate to you a narration, so remember it." He said: "The world is only for four persons: A slave whom Allah provides with wealth and knowledge, so he has Taqwa of his Lord with it, nurtures the ties of kinship with it, and he knows that Allah has a right in it. So this is the most virtuous rank. And a slave whom Allah provides with knowledge, but He does not provide with wealth. So he has a truthful intent, saying: 'If I had wealth, then I would do the deeds of so-and-so with it.' He has his intention, so their rewards are the same. And a slave whom Allah provides with wealth, but He does not provide him with knowledge. [So he] spends his wealth rashly without knowledge, nor having Taqwa of his Lord, nor nurturing the ties of kinship, and he does not know that Allah has a right in it. So this is the most despicable rank. And a slave whom Allah does not provide with wealth nor knowledge, so he says: 'If I had wealth, then I would do the deeds of so-and-so with it.' He has his intention, so their sin is the same."  

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Ṣaḥīḥ.
(٥٥٦) الترمذي:٢٣٢٥حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَادَةُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ خَبَّابٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الطَّائِيِّ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو كَبْشَةَ الأَنْمَارِيُّ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ ثَلاَثَةٌ أُقْسِمُ عَلَيْهِنَّ وَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ حَدِيثًا فَاحْفَظُوهُ قَالَ مَا نَقَصَ مَالُ عَبْدٍ مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ وَلاَ ظُلِمَ عَبْدٌ مَظْلِمَةً فَصَبَرَ عَلَيْهَا إِلاَّ زَادَهُ اللَّهُ عِزًّا وَلاَ فَتَحَ عَبْدٌ بَابَ مَسْأَلَةٍ إِلاَّ فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ بَابَ فَقْرٍ أَوْ كَلِمَةً نَحْوَهَا وَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ حَدِيثًا فَاحْفَظُوهُ قَالَ إِنَّمَا الدُّنْيَا لأَرْبَعَةِ نَفَرٍ عَبْدٍ رَزَقَهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً وَعِلْمًا فَهُوَ يَتَّقِي فِيهِ رَبَّهُ وَيَصِلُ فِيهِ رَحِمَهُ وَيَعْلَمُ لِلَّهِ فِيهِ حَقًّا فَهَذَا بِأَفْضَلِ الْمَنَازِلِ وَعَبْدٍ رَزَقَهُ اللَّهُ عِلْمًا وَلَمْ يَرْزُقْهُ مَالاً فَهُوَ صَادِقُ النِّيَّةِ يَقُولُ لَوْ أَنَّ لِي مَالاً لَعَمِلْتُ بِعَمَلِ فُلاَنٍ فَهُوَ بِنِيَّتِهِ فَأَجْرُهُمَا سَوَاءٌ وَعَبْدٍ رَزَقَهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً وَلَمْ يَرْزُقْهُ عِلْمًا فَهُوَ يَخْبِطُ فِي مَالِهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ لاَ يَتَّقِي فِيهِ رَبَّهُ وَلاَ يَصِلُ فِيهِ رَحِمَهُ وَلاَ يَعْلَمُ لِلَّهِ فِيهِ حَقًّا فَهَذَا بِأَخْبَثِ الْمَنَازِلِ وَعَبْدٍ لَمْ يَرْزُقْهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً وَلاَ عِلْمًا فَهُوَ يَقُولُ لَوْ أَنَّ لِي مَالاً لَعَمِلْتُ فِيهِ بِعَمَلِ فُلاَنٍ فَهُوَ بِنِيَّتِهِ فَوِزْرُهُمَا سَوَاءٌ  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ
(557) tirmidhi:2470Muḥammad b. Bashhār > Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > Sufyān > Abū Isḥāq > Abū Maysarah > ʿĀʾishah > Um Dhabaḥūā Shāh

"What remains of it?" She said: "Nothing remains of it except its shoulder." He said: "All of it remains except its shoulder."  

(٥٥٧) الترمذي:٢٤٧٠حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهُمْ ذَبَحُوا شَاةً فَقَالَ

النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا بَقِيَ مِنْهَا قَالَتْ مَا بَقِيَ مِنْهَا إِلاَّ كَتِفُهَا قَالَ بَقِيَ كُلُّهَا غَيْرَ كَتِفِهَا  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ وَأَبُو مَيْسَرَةَ هُوَ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ اسْمُهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ شُرَحْبِيلَ
(558) muslim:1029aAbū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah > Ḥafṣ / Ibn Ghiyāth > Hishām > Fāṭimah b. al-Mundhir > Asmāʾ b. Abū Bakr

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: Spend, and do not calculate, or otherwise Allah would also calculate in your case.  

(٥٥٨) مسلم:١٠٢٩aحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ غِيَاثٍ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ الْمُنْذِرِ

عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ قَالَتْ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْفِقِي أَوِ انْضَحِي أَوِ انْفَحِي وَلاَ تُحْصِي فَيُحْصِيَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ  

(559) bukhari:1443Mūsá > Wuhayb > Ibn Ṭāwus from his father > Abū Hurayrah

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The example of a miser and an almsgiver is like the example of two persons wearing iron cloaks." Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said, "The example of an almsgiver and a miser is like the example of two persons who have two iron cloaks on them from their breasts to their collar bones, and when the almsgiver wants to give in charity, the cloak becomes capacious till it covers his whole body to such an extent that it hides his fingertips and covers his footprints (obliterates his tracks). (1) And when the miser wants to spend, it (the iron cloak) sticks and every ring gets stuck to its place and he tries to widen it, but it did not become wide.  

(٥٥٩) البخاري:١٤٤٣حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَثَلُ الْبَخِيلِ وَالْمُتَصَدِّقِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلَيْنِ عَلَيْهِمَا جُبَّتَانِ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنَادِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَثَلُ الْبَخِيلِ وَالْمُنْفِقِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلَيْنِ عَلَيْهِمَا جُبَّتَانِ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ مِنْ ثُدِيِّهِمَا إِلَى تَرَاقِيهِمَا فَأَمَّا الْمُنْفِقُ فَلاَ يُنْفِقُ إِلاَّ سَبَغَتْ أَوْ وَفَرَتْ عَلَى جِلْدِهِ حَتَّى تُخْفِيَ بَنَانَهُ وَتَعْفُوَ أَثَرَهُ وَأَمَّا الْبَخِيلُ فَلاَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُنْفِقَ شَيْئًا إِلاَّ لَزِقَتْ كُلُّ حَلْقَةٍ مَكَانَهَا فَهُوَ يُوَسِّعُهَا وَلاَ تَتَّسِعُ  

تَابَعَهُ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ فِي الْجُبَّتَيْنِ
(559) bukhari:5299al-Layth > Jaʿfar b. Rabīʿah > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Hurmuz > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, The example of a miser and a generous person is like that of two persons wearing iron cloaks from the breast upto the neck When the generous person spends, the iron cloak enlarges and spread over his skin so much so that it covers his fingertips and obliterates his tracks. As for the miser, as soon as he thinks of spending every ring of the iron cloak sticks to its place (against his body) and he tries to expand it, but it does not expand. The Prophet ﷺ pointed with his hand towards his throat.  

(٥٥٩) البخاري:٥٢٩٩وَقَالَ اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَثَلُ الْبَخِيلِ وَالْمُنْفِقِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلَيْنِ عَلَيْهِمَا جُبَّتَانِ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ مِنْ لَدُنْ ثَدْيَيْهِمَا إِلَى تَرَاقِيهِمَا فَأَمَّا الْمُنْفِقُ فَلاَ يُنْفِقُ شَيْئًا إِلاَّ مَادَّتْ عَلَى جِلْدِهِ حَتَّى تُجِنَّ بَنَانَهُ وَتَعْفُوَ أَثَرَهُ وَأَمَّا الْبَخِيلُ فَلاَ يُرِيدُ يُنْفِقُ إِلاَّ لَزِمَتْ كُلُّ حَلْقَةٍ مَوْضِعَهَا فَهْوَ يُوسِعُهَا فَلاَ تَتَّسِعُ وَيُشِيرُ بِإِصْبَعِهِ إِلَى حَلْقِهِ  

(560) bukhari:1410ʿAbdullāh b. Munīr > Abū al-Naḍr > ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Ibn ʿAbdullāh b. Dīnār from his father > Abū Ṣāliḥ > Abū Hurayrah > Qāl

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If one give in charity what equals one date-fruit from the honestly earned money and Allah accepts only the honestly earned money --Allah takes it in His right (hand) and then enlarges its reward for that person (who has given it), as anyone of you brings up his baby horse, so much s that it becomes as big as a mountain  

(٥٦٠) البخاري:١٤١٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُنِيرٍ سَمِعَ أَبَا النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ هُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ تَصَدَّقَ بِعَدْلِ تَمْرَةٍ مِنْ كَسْبٍ طَيِّبٍ وَلاَ يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ إِلاَّ الطَّيِّبَ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَتَقَبَّلُهَا بِيَمِينِهِ ثُمَّ يُرَبِّيهَا لِصَاحِبِهِ كَمَا يُرَبِّي أَحَدُكُمْ فَلُوَّهُ حَتَّى تَكُونَ مِثْلَ الْجَبَلِ  

تَابَعَهُ سُلَيْمَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ دِينَارٍ وَقَالَ وَرْقَاءُ عَنِ ابْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ وَزَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ وَسُهَيْلٌ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ
(560) bukhari:7430Khālid b. Makhlad > Sulaymān > ʿAbdullāh b. Dīnār > Abū Ṣāliḥ > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If somebody gives in charity something equal to a date from his honestly earned money ----for nothing ascends to Allah except good---- then Allah will take it in His Right (Hand) and bring it up for its owner as anyone of you brings up a baby horse, till it becomes like a mountain." Abu Huraira said: The Prophet. said, "Nothing ascends to Allah except good."  

(٥٦٠) البخاري:٧٤٣٠وَقَالَ خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ تَصَدَّقَ بِعَدْلِ تَمْرَةٍ مِنْ كَسْبٍ طَيِّبٍ وَلاَ يَصْعَدُ إِلَى اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الطَّيِّبُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَتَقَبَّلُهَا بِيَمِينِهِ ثُمَّ يُرَبِّيهَا لِصَاحِبِهِ كَمَا يُرَبِّي أَحَدُكُمْ فَلُوَّهُ حَتَّى تَكُونَ مِثْلَ الْجَبَلِ وَرَوَاهُ وَرْقَاءُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَلاَ يَصْعَدُ إِلَى اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الطَّيِّبُ  

(561) muslim:2984aAbū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah And Zuhayr b. Ḥarb Wa-al-Lafẓ Lʾabī Bakr > Yazīd b. Hārūn > ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abū Salamah > Wahb b. Kaysān > ʿUbayd b. ʿUmayr al-Laythī > Abū Hurayrah

While a person was in the wilderness he heard a voice from the cloud (commanding it thus): Irrigate the garden of so and so. (After that the clouds slinked aside and poured water on a stony ground. It filled a channel amongst the channels of that land and that person followed that water and he found a person standing in the garden busy in changing the course of water with the help of a hatchet. He said to him: Servant of Allah, what is your name? he said: So and so. And it was that very name which he had heard from the clouds. and he said to him: Servant of Allah, why do you ask me my name? He said: I heard a voice from the clouds of which is the downpour, saying: Water the garden of so and so, like your name. What do you do (for the favour) shown to you by Allah in this matter? He said: Now as you state so. I look what yield I get from it, and I give one-third as charity out of it and I and my children eat one-third of it and one-third I return to it as investment.  

(٥٦١) مسلم:٢٩٨٤aحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لأَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَا رَجُلٌ بِفَلاَةٍ مِنَ الأَرْضِ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتًا فِي سَحَابَةٍ اسْقِ حَدِيقَةَ فُلاَنٍ فَتَنَحَّى ذَلِكَ السَّحَابُ فَأَفْرَغَ مَاءَهُ فِي حَرَّةٍ فَإِذَا شَرْجَةٌ مِنْ تِلْكَ الشِّرَاجِ قَدِ اسْتَوْعَبَتْ ذَلِكَ الْمَاءَ كُلَّهُ فَتَتَبَّعَ الْمَاءَ فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ قَائِمٌ فِي حَدِيقَتِهِ يُحَوِّلُ الْمَاءَ بِمِسْحَاتِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ مَا اسْمُكَ قَالَ فُلاَنٌ لِلاِسْمِ الَّذِي سَمِعَ فِي السَّحَابَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ لِمَ تَسْأَلُنِي عَنِ اسْمِي فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ صَوْتًا فِي السَّحَابِ الَّذِي هَذَا مَاؤُهُ يَقُولُ اسْقِ حَدِيقَةَ فُلاَنٍ لاِسْمِكَ فَمَا تَصْنَعُ فِيهَا قَالَ أَمَّا إِذَا قُلْتَ هَذَا فَإِنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى مَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا فَأَتَصَدَّقُ بِثُلُثِهِ وَآكُلُ أَنَا وَعِيَالِي ثُلُثًا وَأَرُدُّ فِيهَا ثُلُثَهُ  

(570) bukhari:73al-Ḥumaydī > Sufyān > Ismāʿīl b. Abū Khālid > Ghayr Mā > al-Zuhrī > Qays b. Abū Ḥāzim > ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not wish to be like anyone except in two cases. (The first is) A person, whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously; (the second is) the one whom Allah has given wisdom (the Holy Qur'an) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others." (Fath-al-Bari page 177 Vol. 1)  

(٥٧٠) البخاري:٧٣حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا حَدَّثَنَاهُ الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَيْسَ بْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَسُلِّطَ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَرَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ الْحِكْمَةَ فَهْوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا  

(570) bukhari:1409Muḥammad b. al-Muthanná > Yaḥyá > Ismāʿīl > Qays > Ibn Masʿūd

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "There is no envy except in two: a person whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom (i.e. religious knowledge) and he gives his decisions accordingly and teaches it to the others."  

(٥٧٠) البخاري:١٤٠٩حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسٌ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَسَلَّطَهُ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَرَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ حِكْمَةً فَهْوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا  

(570) bukhari:7141Shihāb b. ʿAbbād > Ibrāhīm b. Ḥumayd > Ismāʿīl > Qays > ʿAbdullāh

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not wish to be like anyone, except in two cases: (1) A man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously. (2) A man whom Allah has given wisdom (knowledge of the Qur'an and the Hadith) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others."  

(٥٧٠) البخاري:٧١٤١حَدَّثَنَا شِهَابُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَسَلَّطَهُ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَآخَرُ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ حِكْمَةً فَهْوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا  

(570) bukhari:7316Shihāb b. ʿAbbād > Ibrāhīm b. Ḥumayd > Ismāʿīl > Qays > ʿAbdullāh

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not wish to be like anybody except in two cases: The case of a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and that of a man whom Allah has given religious wisdom (i.e., Qur'an and Sunna) and he gives his verdicts according to it and teaches it." (to others i.e., religious knowledge of Qur'an and Sunna (Prophet's Traditions)). "  

(٥٧٠) البخاري:٧٣١٦حَدَّثَنَا شِهَابُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَسُلِّطَ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَآخَرُ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ حِكْمَةً فَهْوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا  

Allah raises the one who lowers himself

(602) muslim:2588Yaḥyá b. Ayyūb And Qutaybah And Ibn Ḥujr > Ismāʿīl Wahū Ibn Jaʿfar > al-ʿAlāʾ from his father > Abū Hurayrah

from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "(1) Charity does not decrease wealth, (2) no one forgives another except that Allah increases his honor, and (3) no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status."  

(٦٠٢) مسلم:٢٥٨٨حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ وَقُتَيْبَةُ وَابْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «(١) مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ، (٢) وَمَا زَادَ اللَّهُ عَبْدًا بِعَفْوٍ إِلاَّ عِزًّا، (٣) وَمَا تَوَاضَعَ أَحَدٌ لِلَّهِ إِلاَّ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ۔»
