0.4. Prohibition of Disobeying Parents and severance of Relations

٠.٤۔ باب تحريم العقوق وقطيعة الرحم

(336) bukhari:2654Musaddad > Bishr b. al-Mufaḍḍal > al-Jurayrī > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Abū Bakrah from his father

The Prophet ﷺ said thrice, "Should I inform you out the greatest of the great sins?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" He said, "To join others in worship with Allah and to be undutiful to one's parents." The Prophet ﷺ then sat up after he had been reclining (on a pillow) and said, "And I warn you against giving a false witness, and he kept on saying that warning till we thought he would not stop. (See Hadith No. 7, Vol. 8)  

(٣٣٦) البخاري:٢٦٥٤حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَلاَ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِأَكْبَرِ الْكَبَائِرِ ثَلاَثًا قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ الإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ وَعُقُوقُ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَجَلَسَ وَكَانَ مُتَّكِئًا فَقَالَ أَلاَ وَقَوْلُ الزُّورِ قَالَ فَمَا زَالَ يُكَرِّرُهَا حَتَّى قُلْنَا لَيْتَهُ سَكَتَ  

وَقَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said thrice, "Shall I not inform you of the biggest of the great sins?" We said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ" He said, "To join partners in worship with Allah: to be undutiful to one's parents." The Prophet ﷺ sat up after he had been reclining and added, "And I warn you against giving forged statement and a false witness; I warn you against giving a forged statement and a false witness." The Prophet kept on saying that warning till we thought that he would not stop.  

(٣٣٦) البخاري:٥٩٧٦حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْوَاسِطِيُّ عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَلاَ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِأَكْبَرِ الْكَبَائِرِ قُلْنَا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ الإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ وَعُقُوقُ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَكَانَ مُتَّكِئًا فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ أَلاَ وَقَوْلُ الزُّورِ وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ أَلاَ وَقَوْلُ الزُّورِ وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ فَمَا زَالَ يَقُولُهَا حَتَّى قُلْتُ لاَ يَسْكُتُ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I inform you of the biggest of the great sins?" They said, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "To join partners in worship with Allah, and to be undutiful to one's parents. "

The Prophet. said, "The biggest of the great sins are: To join others in worship with Allah, to be undutiful to one's parents, and to give a false witness." He repeated it thrice, or said, "....a false statement," and kept on repeating that warning till we wished he would stop saying it. (See Hadith No.7, Vol. 8)  

(٣٣٦) البخاري:٦٩١٩حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ وَحَدَّثَنِي قَيْسُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَكْبَرُ الْكَبَائِرِ الإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ وَعُقُوقُ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ ثَلاَثًا أَوْ قَوْلُ الزُّورِ فَمَا زَالَ يُكَرِّرُهَا حَتَّى قُلْنَا لَيْتَهُ سَكَتَ

The Prophet ﷺ was asked about the great sins He said, "They are:-- (1 ) To join others in worship with Allah, (2) To be undutiful to one's parents. (3) To kill a person (which Allah has forbidden to kill) (i.e. to commit the crime of murdering). (4) And to give a false witness."  

(٣٣٧) البخاري:٢٦٥٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُنِيرٍ سَمِعَ وَهْبَ بْنَ جَرِيرٍ وَعَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ قَالَ

سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنِ الْكَبَائِرِ قَالَ الإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ وَعُقُوقُ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَقَتْلُ النَّفْسِ وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ  

تَابَعَهُ غُنْدَرٌ وَأَبُو عَامِرٍ وَبَهْزٌ وَعَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ
(337) bukhari:6675Muḥammad b. Muqātil > al-Naḍr > Shuʿbah > Firās > al-Shaʿbī > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The biggest sins are: To join others in worship with Allah; to be undutiful to one's parents; to kill somebody unlawfully; and to take an oath Al-Ghamus.  

(٣٣٧) البخاري:٦٦٧٥حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُقَاتِلٍ أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا فِرَاسٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْكَبَائِرُ الإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ وَعُقُوقُ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَقَتْلُ النَّفْسِ وَالْيَمِينُ الْغَمُوسُ  

(338) bukhari:5973Aḥmad b. Yūnus > Ibrāhīm b. Saʿd from his father > Ḥumayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said. "It is one of the greatest sins that a man should curse his parents." It was asked (by the people), "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! How does a man curse his parents?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "'The man abuses the father of another man and the latter abuses the father of the former and abuses his mother."  

(٣٣٨) البخاري:٥٩٧٣حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ مِنْ أَكْبَرِ الْكَبَائِرِ أَنْ يَلْعَنَ الرَّجُلُ وَالِدَيْهِ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَكَيْفَ يَلْعَنُ الرَّجُلُ وَالِدَيْهِ قَالَ يَسُبُّ الرَّجُلُ أَبَا الرَّجُلِ فَيَسُبُّ أَبَاهُ وَيَسُبُّ أَمَّهُ  

(340) bukhari:2408ʿUthmān > Jarīr > Manṣūr > al-Shaʿbī > And Rrād a freed slave of al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah > al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah has forbidden for you, (1) to be undutiful to your mothers, (2) to bury your daughters alive, (3) to not to pay the rights of the others (e.g. charity, etc.) and (4) to beg of men (begging). And Allah has hated for you (1) vain, useless talk, or that you talk too much about others, (2) to ask too many questions, (in disputed religious matters) and (3) to waste the wealth (by extravagance).  

(٣٤٠) البخاري:٢٤٠٨حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ وَرَّادٍ مَوْلَى الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ عُقُوقَ الأُمَّهَاتِ وَوَأْدَ الْبَنَاتِ وَمَنَعَ وَهَاتِ وَكَرِهَ لَكُمْ قِيلَ وَقَالَ وَكَثْرَةَ السُّؤَالِ وَإِضَاعَةَ الْمَالِ  

(340) bukhari:5975Saʿd b. Ḥafṣ > Shaybān > Manṣūr > al-Musayyab > And Rrād > al-Mughīrah

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah has forbidden you ( 1 ) to be undutiful to your mothers (2) to withhold (what you should give) or (3) demand (what you do not deserve), and (4) to bury your daughters alive. And Allah has disliked that (A) you talk too much about others ( B), ask too many questions (in religion), or (C) waste your property."  

(٣٤٠) البخاري:٥٩٧٥حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ وَرَّادٍ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ عُقُوقَ الأُمَّهَاتِ وَمَنْعَ وَهَاتِ وَوَأْدَ الْبَنَاتِ وَكَرِهَ لَكُمْ قِيلَ وَقَالَ وَكَثْرَةَ السُّؤَالِ وَإِضَاعَةَ الْمَالِ
