This is not but the word of a human being."  

this is nothing but the speech of humans’, similar to what they ˹the idolaters˺ had said: ‘It is only a human that is teaching him’ ˹Q. 16:103˺.

إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ  

ما {إن هذا إلا قول البشر} كما قالوا إنما يعلمه بشر.

This is not but the custom of the former peoples,  

This, that you threaten us with, is merely the fabrication of the ancients, that is, their inventions and lies (a variant reading ˹for khalq, ‘fabrication’˺ is khuluq, ‘ethos’, in other words, this denial of resurrection to which we adhere is merely ‘the ethos of the ancients’, in other words, their nature and wont);
القرآن:٢٦:١٣٧

إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ  

{إن} ما {هذا} الذي خوفنا به {إلا خَلْق الأولين} اختلافهم وكذبهم وفي قراءة بضم الخاء واللام أي ما هذا الذي نحن عليه من إنكار للبعث إلا خلق الأولين أي طبيعتهم وعادتهم.
