"At the time of the Messenger of Allah, the people used to give as Sadaqatul Fitr a Sa' of barely or dates or rye or raising."
عَنْ صَدَقَةِ الْفِطْرِ فِي عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ أَوْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ سُلْتٍ أَوْ زَبِيبٍ
The people during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to bring forth the sadaqah at the end of Ramadan when closing the fast one sa' of barley whose straw is removed, or of raisins. Abdullah said: When Umar (Allah be pleased with him) succeeded, and the wheat became abundant, Umar prescribed half a sa' of wheat instead of all these things.
كَانَ النَّاسُ يُخْرِجُونَ صَدَقَةَ الْفِطْرِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ أَوْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ سُلْتٍ أَوْ زَبِيبٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُمَرُ ؓ وَكَثُرَتِ الْحِنْطَةُ جَعَلَ عُمَرُ نِصْفَ صَاعِ حِنْطَةٍ مَكَانَ صَاعٍ مِنْ تِلْكَ الأَشْيَاءِ
[AI] "People used to give Zakat al-Fitr during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may peace be upon him, as a saa' of dates or a saa' of barley or a saa' of raisins or a saa' of wheat."
«كَانَ النَّاسُ يُخْرِجُونَ صَدَقَةَ الْفِطْرِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ أَوْ سُلْتٍ أَوْ زَبِيبٍ»
[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "When he (referring to Prophet Muhammad) mandated the payment of Zakat al-Fitr, he ordered to give a Sa'a (a measure) of dates or a Sa'a of barley, and nothing else was to be given as Zakat al-Fitr except dates."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ حِينَ فَرَضَ صَدَقَةَ الْفِطْرِ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ وَكَانَ لَا يُخْرَجُ إِلَّا التَّمْرُ
[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ enjoined upon us the obligation of giving a Sa' of barley or a Sa' of dates as charity in Ramadan."
«فَرَضَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَدَقَةَ رَمَضَانَ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ»
