[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ sent us on a military expedition and appointed Ali as a leader over us. When we returned, we asked, "How did you find the companionship of your leader?" Whether it was I who complained against him or someone else, I raised my head and realized that the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had turned red. He said, "Whoever I am a leader for, then Ali is his leader."  

الكبرى للنسائي:٨٤١١ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْنَا عَلِيًّا فَلَمَّا رَجَعْنَا سَأَلْنَا «كَيْفَ رَأَيْتُمْ صُحْبَةَ صَاحِبِكُمْ؟» فَإِمَّا شَكَوْتُهُ أَنَا وَإِمَّا شَكَاهُ غَيْرِي فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي وَكُنْتُ رَجُلًا مِكْبَابًا فَإِذَا بِوَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللهِ قَدِ احْمَرَّ فَقَالَ «مَنْ كُنْتُ وَلِيَّهُ فَعَلِيٌّ وَلِيُّهُ»

[Machine] We sent the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a secret expedition. When we arrived, he asked, "How did you find the companions of your leader?" I replied, "If I had any complaints about him, I would have voiced them, but someone else may have complaints." He said, "Then I raised my head and I was a humble man. Then I saw that the face of the Prophet ﷺ turned red. He said, 'Whoever I am his supporter, then Ali is his supporter.'"

"عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ قَالَ: بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِى سَرِيَّةٍ، واسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْنَا عَلَيّا، فَلَمَّا جئْنَا سَألَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كَيْفَ رَأَيْتُمْ صُحْبَةَ صَاحبِكُمْ؟ قَالَ: فإمَّا شَكَوْتُهُ، وإمَّا شَكَاهُ غَيْرِى، فَرَفَعْتُ رَأسِى وَكُنْتُ رَجُلًا مِكْبَابًا (*)، وَكُنْتُ إِذَا حَدَّثْتُ الْحَدِيثَ أَكْبَبْتُ، وَإِذَا النَّبِىُّ ﷺ قَد احْمَرَّ وَجْهُهُ فَقَالَ: مَنْ كُنْتُ وَلِيَّهُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيّا وَلَيُّهُ، فَذَهَبَ الَّذِى فِى نَفْسِى عَلَيْهِ، فَقُلْتُ: لاَ أَذْكُرُهُ بِسُوءٍ".
