[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once performed ablution without realizing it, and I poured water from my ablution water onto him. He then became conscious and I asked him, "Will I inherit from you as a son-in-law, and how will the inheritance be?" Then the verse of obligatory inheritance was revealed [to resolve this question].  

الكبرى للنسائي:٧٤٧٠أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَادَهُ وَهُوَ لَا يَعْقِلُ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ وَضُوئِهِ فَعَقِلَ فَقُلْتُ «يَرِثُنِي كَلَالَةً فَكَيْفَ الْمِيرَاثُ؟ فَنَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْفَرْضِ»

Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to visit me while I was sick and unconscious. He performed ablution and sprinkled the remaining water on me and I became conscious and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! To whom will my inheritance go as I have neither ascendants nor descendants?" Then the Divine verses regarding Fara'id (inheritance) were revealed.  

البخاري:١٩٤حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا يَقُولُ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَعُودُنِي وَأَنَا مَرِيضٌ لاَ أَعْقِلُ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَصَبَّ عَلَىَّ مِنْ وَضُوئِهِ فَعَقَلْتُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لِمَنِ الْمِيرَاثُ إِنَّمَا يَرِثُنِي كَلاَلَةٌ فَنَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْفَرَائِضِ

The Prophet ﷺ came to me while I was ill. He performed ablution and threw the remaining water on me (or said, "Pour it on him) " When I came to my senses I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I have no son or father to be my heir, so how will be my inheritance?" Then the Verse of inheritance was revealed.  

البخاري:٥٦٧٦حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ؓ قَالَ

دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَنَا مَرِيضٌ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَصَبَّ عَلَىَّ أَوْ قَالَ صُبُّوا عَلَيْهِ فَعَقَلْتُ فَقُلْتُ لاَ يَرِثُنِي إِلاَّ كَلاَلَةٌ فَكَيْفَ الْمِيرَاثُ فَنَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْفَرَائِضِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to frequently perform ablution without any clear reason, so he poured water from his ablution onto me. Then he became conscious and I asked him if it meant that he was bequeathing me some inheritance. So, the verse of obligatory bequest was revealed.
