None of you should say: My bondman and my slave-girl, for all of you are the bondmen of Allah, and all your women are the slave-girls of Allah; but say: My servant, my girl, and my young man and my young girl.

Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "None of you should say, 'My slave ('abdi)' or 'my slavegirl (amati)' All of you are slaves of Allah and all of your women are slaves of Allah. Rather you should say, 'My boy (ghulami)', my slavegirl (jariyyati)', 'my lad (fatayi)' or 'my girl (fatati).'"

"لا يَقُولَنَّ أحَدُكُمْ عَبْدى وَأمَتِي، كُلُّكُمْ عَبيدُ اللهِ، وكُلُّ نِسائِكُمْ إِمَاءُ اللهِ، وَلكِنْ لِيَقُلْ: غُلامِي وجَارِيَتِي، وَفتاى وَفتاتِي".
