I asked Jabir about ithe eating) of the lizard, whereupon he said: Don't eat that as he (the Holy Prophet) felt disgust. He (the narrator) said that Umar b. al-Khattab reminded: Allah's Apostle ﷺ did not declare it to be unlawful. Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, has (made it a source) of benefit for more than one (persons). It is a common diet of the shepherds. Had it been with me, I would have eaten that.  

مسلم:١٩٥٠وَحَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا عَنِ الضَّبِّ فَقَالَ لاَ تَطْعَمُوهُ وَقَذِرَهُ

وَقَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَمْ يُحَرِّمْهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ يَنْفَعُ بِهِ غَيْرَ وَاحِدٍ فَإِنَّمَا طَعَامُ عَامَّةِ الرِّعَاءِ مِنْهُ وَلَوْ كَانَ عِنْدِي طَعِمْتُهُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was presented with it, and he said, "I will not eat it and I consider it filthy." Umar ibn Al-Khattab said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not prohibit it, and surely Allah ﷻ can benefit others from it besides one person. It is the food of the general public, and if I had it, I would eat it."

[Machine] And Umar ibn Al-Khattab said: "Verily, the Prophet ﷺ did not forbid it, as Allah Almighty can benefit with it more than one person. Indeed, it is the food of the general public, even if I were to taste it."
