He used to observe fast (at times) so continuously that we said: He has fasted, he has fasted. And (at times) he did not observe fast (for days) and we began to say: He has abandoned fasting, he has abandoned fasting. She said: I did not see him observing fast throughout the whole of the month since he arrived in Medina, but that of Ramadan.  

مسلم:١١٥٦c – وَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ وَهِشَامٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ حَمَّادٌ وَأَظُنُّ أَيُّوبَ قَدْ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ ؓ

عَنْ صَوْمِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ كَانَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ صَامَ قَدْ صَامَ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ أَفْطَرَ قَدْ أَفْطَرَ قَالَتْ وَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ صَامَ شَهْرًا كَامِلاً مُنْذُ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ رَمَضَانَ

"I asked Aishah about the Prophet's fasting.' She said: 'He would fast until we said: "He has fasted" and he would abstain from fasting until we said: "He has abstained from fasting." (She said:) 'The Messenger of Allah did not fast an entire month except Ramadan.'"  

الترمذي:٧٦٨ – حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ

[Machine] About the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , she said: He used to prolong the prayer while standing and while sitting. When he would pray standing, he would perform the rukoo' (bowing) and sujood (prostration) while standing, and when he would pray sitting, he would perform the rukoo' and sujood while sitting. And I asked her about the fasting of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast until we would say, "He has fasted, he has fasted, he has fasted!" And he would break his fast until we would say, "He has broken his fast, he has broken his fast, he has broken his fast!" And he did not fast a complete month since coming to Madinah except for the month of Ramadan.  

أحمد:٢٥٩٠٧ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ

عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَتْ كَانَ يُطِيلُ الصَّلَاةَ قَائِمًا وَقَاعِدًا وَكَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى قَائِمًا رَكَعَ قَائِمًا وَإِذَا صَلَّى قَاعِدًا رَكَعَ قَاعِدًا وَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ صِيَامِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ فَقَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ صَامَ قَدْ صَامَ قَدْ صَامَ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ أَفْطَرَ قَدْ أَفْطَرَقَدْ أَفْطَرَ وَلَمْ يَصُمْ شَهْرًا تَامًّا مُنْذُ أَتَى الْمَدِينَةَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ  

ذِكْرُ الِاسْتِحْبَابِ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَصُومَ مَرَّةً، وَيُفْطِرَ مَرَّةً

[Machine] Regarding the fasting of the Prophet ﷺ , she said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to fast until we would say he would not break his fast, and then he would break his fast until we would say he did not fast. And I did not see him fasting more in any month than he did in Sha'ban, he used to fast all of it except a little."  

ابن حبّان:٣٦٣٧ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ كَاسِبٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي لَبِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ عَائِشَةَ أَسْأَلُهَا

عَنْ صِيَامِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ «كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ صَامَ ثُمَّ يُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ أَفْطَرَ وَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ أَكْثَرَ صِيَامًا مِنْهُ فِي شَعْبَانَ كَانَ يَصُومُهُ كُلَّهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا»
