٣۔ كتاب الحيض

3.31 It is permissible for one who has broken his wudu' to eat, and there is nothing disliked about doing so, and wudu' need not be done immediately

٣۔٣١ باب جَوَازِ أَكْلِ الْمُحْدِثِ الطَّعَامَ وَأَنَّهُ لاَ كَرَاهَةَ فِي ذَلِكَ وَأَنَّ الْوُضُوءَ لَيْسَ عَلَى الْفَوْرِ

The Apostle of Allah ﷺ came out of the privy, and he was presented with some food, and the people reminded him about ablution, but he said: Am I to say prayer that I should perform ablution?  

مسلم:٣٧٤aحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ وَأَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ وَقَالَ أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَرَجَ مِنَ الْخَلاَءِ فَأُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ فَذَكَرُوا لَهُ الْوُضُوءَ فَقَالَ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ فَأَتَوَضَّأَ  

muslim:374bAbū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah > Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah > ʿAmr > Saʿīd b. al-Ḥūwayrith > Ibn ʿAbbās

We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he had come out of the privy. Food was presented to him. It was said to him (by the Companions around him): Wouldn't you perform ablution? Upon this he said: Why, am I to say prayer that I should perform ablution?  

مسلم:٣٧٤bوَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَجَاءَ مِنَ الْغَائِطِ وَأُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَلاَ تَوَضَّأُ فَقَالَ لِمَ أَأُصَلِّي فَأَتَوَضَّأَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to the privy and when he came back, he was presented with food. It was said to him; Messenger of Allah, wouldn't you perform ablution. He said: Why, am I to say prayer?  

مسلم:٣٧٤cوَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ مَوْلَى آلِ السَّائِبِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

ذَهَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْغَائِطِ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ قُدِّمَ لَهُ طَعَامٌ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلاَ تَوَضَّأُ قَالَ لِمَ أَلِلصَّلاَةِ

The Apostle of Allah ﷺ came out of the privy after relieving himself, and food was brought to him and he took it, and did not touch water. In another narration transmitted by Sa'id b. al-Huwairith it is like this: It was said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ You have not performed ablution. He said: I do not intend to say prayer that I should perform ablution.  

مسلم:٣٧٤dوَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ جَبَلَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ حُوَيْرِثٍ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ مِنَ الْخَلاَءِ فَقُرِّبَ إِلَيْهِ طَعَامٌ فَأَكَلَ وَلَمْ يَمَسَّ مَاءً قَالَ وَزَادَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّكَ لَمْ تَوَضَّأْ قَالَ مَا أَرَدْتُ صَلاَةً فَأَتَوَضَّأَ وَزَعَمَ عَمْرٌو أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مِنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ
