“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr and ‘Umar died, and the houses in Makkah were still called free. Whoever needed to, lived there, and whoever had no need of them allowed others to live there (without asking for rent).”  

ابن ماجة:٣١٠٧حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ نَضْلَةَ قَالَ

تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَمَا تُدْعَى رِبَاعُ مَكَّةَ إِلاَّ السَّوَائِبَ مَنِ احْتَاجَ سَكَنَ وَمَنِ اسْتَغْنَى أَسْكَنَ
