I never saw the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Let my parents sacrifice their lives for you," to any man after Saʿd. I heard him saying (to him), "Throw (the arrows)! Let my parents sacrifice their lives for you."

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا ؓ يَقُولُ مَا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُفَدِّي رَجُلاً بَعْدَ سَعْدٍ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ ارْمِ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي

The Prophet ﷺ took out a quiver (of arrows) for me on the day of Uhud and said, "Throw (arrows); let my father and mother be sacrificed for you."

سَمِعْتُ سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ يَقُولُ نَثَلَ لِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ كِنَانَتَهُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَقَالَ ارْمِ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي

Saʿd bin Abi Waqqas said, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned both his father and mother for me on the day of the battle of Uhud." He meant when the Prophet ﷺ said (to Saʿd) while the latter was fighting. "Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you!"

أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ؓ لَقَدْ جَمَعَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ أَبَوَيْهِ كِلَيْهِمَا يُرِيدُ حِينَ قَالَ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي وَهُوَ يُقَاتِلُ

I have never heard the Prophet ﷺ mentioning his father and mother for anybody other than Saʿd bin Malik. I heard him saying on the day of Uhud, "O Saʿd throw (arrows)! Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you !"

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَمَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ لأَحَدٍ إِلاَّ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ يَا سَعْدُ ارْمِ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي

Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not gather his parents except in case of Saʿd b. Malik that he said to him on the Day of Uhud: Shoot an arrow, may my father and mother be taken as ransom for you.

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ مَا جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبَوَيْهِ لأَحَدٍ غَيْرَ سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَإِنَّهُ جَعَلَ يَقُولُ لَهُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ارْمِ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي

"I did not hear the Prophet ﷺ mentioning both of his parents (that is including both in the saying "May my father and mother be ransomed for you") for anyone other than Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas."

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَمَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ لأَحَدٍ غَيْرَ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ

"I never heard the Prophet ﷺ mentioning both of his parents being ransomed for anyone except for Sa'd. On the Day of Uhud, I heard him saying: 'Shoot, Sa'd, may my father and mother be ransomed for you."

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُفَدِّي أَحَدًا بِأَبَوَيْهِ إِلاَّ لِسَعْدٍ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ارْمِ سَعْدٌ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ

"I never saw the Messenger of Allah mention his parents together for anyone except Sa'd bin Malik. He said to him on the Day of Uhud: 'Shoot, Sa'd! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you!'"

مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَمَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ لأَحَدٍ غَيْرِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَإِنَّهُ قَالَ لَهُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ارْمِ سَعْدُ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي

Saʿd bin al-Hadi said: I heard ʿAli ؓ say: I never heard the Prophet ﷺ mention his father and mother together (in the phrase ʿmay my father and mother be sacrificed for youʿ) for anyone except Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas. I heard him say on the day of Uhud: ʿShoot, O Saʿd, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you!ʿ

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَجْمَعُ أَبَاهُ وَأُمَّهُ لِأَحَدٍ غَيْرَ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ارْمِ يَا سَعْدُ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي

I never heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say ʿMay my father and mother be sacrificed for you.ʿ to anyone except Saʿd bin Malik, I heard him say to him on the day of Uhud. “Shoot, Saʿd, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you!ʿ

I heard ‘Abdullah bin Shaddad say: ʿAli ؓ said: I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention both of his parents for anyone except Saʿd bin Malik ؓ . On the day of Uhud he started saying: ʿShoot, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you!”

عَلِيٌّ مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ جَمَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ لِأَحَدٍ غَيْرِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَإِنَّهُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ جَعَلَ يَقُولُ ارْمِ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي

"عَنْ عَلِى قَالَ: مَا سَمِعْتُ رسول الله ﷺ يَفْدِى أحَدًا بِأَبَويْهِ إلَّا سَعْدًا، فإنى سَمِعْتُه يَقولُ يَومَ أُحُدٍ ارْمِ سَعْدُ فِداكَ أَبِى وَأُمِّى".

"عَنْ عَلِىٍّ قَال: مَا سَمِعْتُ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ فَدَى أَحَدًا غَيْرَ سَعْدٍ، فَإِنَّهُ قَالَ: ارْمِ فِدَاكَ أَبِى وَأُمَّى".

"عَنْ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُنَاوِلُنِى السَّهْمَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ يَقُولُ: ارْمِ فِدَاك أَبِى وَأُمَّى".

"عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: سَمعْتُ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ (*) جَمَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ لِأَحدٍ إِلا لِسَعْدٍ، فَإِنِّى سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: ارْمِ سَعْدُ، فدَاكَ أَبِى وَأُمِّى".
