ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ كَانَ يُشَبَّهُ فِي هَدْيِهِ، وَسَمْتِهِ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

"We came to Hudhaifah and said: 'Inform us of the closest to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in guidance and conduct, so that we may take from him and hear from him.' He said: 'The closest of the people in guidance, conduct, and character used to be 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud, until he would hide from us in his house. And the guarded ones (guarded by Allah from straying in word and deed) from the Companions of Muhammad ﷺ know that Ibn Umm 'Abd (a nickname for 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud) is from among the most intimately close to Allah of them.'

حَدِّثْنَا مَنْ بِأَقْرَبِ النَّاسِ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَدْيًا وَدَلاًّ فَنَأْخُذَ عَنْهُ وَنَسْمَعَ مِنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ أَقْرَبَ النَّاسِ هَدْيًا وَدَلاًّ وَسَمْتًا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ حَتَّى يَتَوَارَى مِنَّا فِي بَيْتِهِ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ هُوَ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ زُلْفَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

[AI] We came to Hudhayfah and said, "Guide us to the closest person to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ whom we can learn from and hear from." He said, "One of the closest people to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in guidance, character, and guidance is the son of Umm Abd until he hides from me in his house." The preserved ones among the companions of Muhammad ﷺ knew that the son of Umm Abd was one of the closest people to Allah.

أَتَيْنَا حُذَيْفَةَ فَقُلْنَا دُلَّنَا عَلَى أَقْرَبِ النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ هَدْيًا وَسَمْتًا وَدَلًّا نَأْخُذْ عَنْهُ وَنَسْمَعْ مِنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ كَانَ مِنْ أَقْرَبِ النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ هَدْيًا وَسَمْتًا وَدَلًّا ابْنُ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ حَتَّى يَتَوَارَى عَنِّي فِي بَيْتِهِ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ أَنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ إِلَى اللهِ زُلْفَةً

[AI] Hudhayfah, the most similar person to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, from the time he leaves his house until he returns, I do not know what he does with his family. Abdullah bin Mas'ud was known by the protected companions of Muhammad ﷺ that Abdullah is the closest to Allah among them and a means on the Day of Judgment.

حُذَيْفَةُ إِنَّ أَشْبَهَ النَّاسِ هَدْيًا وَدَلًّا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ حِينِ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ فَلَا أَدْرِي مَا يَصْنَعُ فِي أَهْلِهِ لَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ وَسِيلَةً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

[AI] Inform us about a man who was close in direction and guidance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so that we may learn from him. He said, "I do not know anyone who was closer in direction, guidance, and evidence to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than the wall of his house hiding him (the Prophet) from the son of Umm 'Abd. We have never heard this from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid. The preserved companions of Muhammad ﷺ know that the son of Umm 'Abd is the closest among them all to Allah and a means (of blessings).

أَخْبِرْنَا بِرَجُلٍ قَرِيبِ السَّمْتِ وَالْهَدْيِ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى نَأْخُذَ عَنْهُ قَالَ مَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَقْرَبَ سَمْتًا وَهَدْيًا وَدَلًّا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى يُوَارِيَهُ جِدَارُ بَيْتِهِ مِنْ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ وَلَمْ نَسْمَعْ هَذَا مِنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ أَنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ إِلَى اللهِ وَسِيلَةً

[AI] Inform us about a man who is closely connected to guidance, direction, and evidence from the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , so that we may learn from him. He said, "I do not know anyone who is closer in regards to guidance, direction, and evidence from the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , until he is hidden behind the walls of his home, from the son of the mother of Abd."

أَخْبِرْنَا بِرَجُلٍ قَرِيبِ الْهَدْيِ وَالسَّمْتِ وَالدَّلِّ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَنَأْخُذَ عَنْهُ قَالَ مَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَقْرَبَ سَمْتًا وَهَدْيًا وَدَلًّا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى يُوَارِيَهُ جِدَارُ بَيْتِهِ مِنْ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ

[AI] Hudhaifah said, "Indeed, the person who most resembles the guidance, manners, intentions, and sermons of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the moment he leaves his house until he returns, and I don't know what he does with his family, is Abdullah bin Mas'ood. And by Allah, the fortunate ones among the companions of Muhammad know that Abdullah is among the closest of them and a means [of guidance] on the Day of Resurrection."

حُذَيْفَةُ «إِنَّ أَشْبَهَ النَّاسِ هَدْيًا وَدَلًّا وَقَصْدًا وَخُطْبَةً بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ حِينِ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ وَلَا أَدْرِي مَا يَصْنَعُ فِي أَهْلِهِ لَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْظُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ وَسِيلَةً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»

[AI] "I have never seen a man more resembling, having a better character, or more guided than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , from the time he leaves his home until he returns to it, than Abdullah ibn Mas'oud. The fortunate companions of Muhammad ﷺ know well that he is closest to them and will be a means of intercession for them on the Day of Resurrection."

«مَا رَأَيْتُ رَجُلًا أَشْبَهَ دَلًّا وَلَا سَمْتًا وَلَا هَدْيًا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ لَدُنْ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ مِنْ دَارِهِ إِلَى أَنْ يَئُوبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ هَذَا يَعْنِي عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْظُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ أَنَّهُ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ وَسِيلَةً عِنْدَ اللهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»

[AI] Hudhaifah said, "Indeed, the closest person in resemblance, guidance, justice, and speech to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the time he leaves his house until he returns, and I don't know what he does with his family, is Abdullah bin Mas'ood. And by Allah, the fortunate ones from the companions of Muhammad ﷺ know that Ibn Mas'ood is among the closest to them and a means for them."

حُذَيْفَةُ «إِنَّ أَشْبَهَ النَّاسِ هَدْيًا وَدَلًّا وَقَضَاءً وَخُطْبَةً بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ حِينِ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ إِلَى أَنْ يَرْجِعَ وَلَا أَدْرِي مَا يَصْنَعُ فِي أَهْلِهِ لَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَاللهِ إِنَّ الْمَحْظُوظِينَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ لَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ وَسِيلَةً»

[AI] Inform us about a man who is close in direction, guidance, and guidance from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He said, "I don't know anyone closer in guidance, direction, and guidance with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until the wall of his house is concealed by the son of Umm Abd."

أَخْبِرْنَا بِرَجُلٍ قَرِيبِ السَّمْتِ وَالْهَدْيِ وَالدَّلِّ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا أعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَقْرَبُ هَدْيًا وَسَمْتًا وَدَلًّا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى يُوَارِي جِدَارُ بَيْتِهِ مِنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ»

[AI] Tell us about a man who is close in direction, guidance, and evidence from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He said, "I do not know anyone who is closer in guidance, direction, and evidence from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until the wall of his house is covered by the son of Umm 'Abd."

أَخْبِرْنَا بِرَجُلٍ قَرِيبِ السَّمْتِ وَالْهَدْيِ وَالدَّلِّ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا أعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَقْرَبُ هَدْيًا وَسَمْتًا وَدَلًّا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى يُوَارِي جِدَارُ بَيْتِهِ مِنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ»

[AI] We were at Hudhaifah's house in the shoes of Abdullah. He said, "I do not know anyone who resembles or walks more like the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than the owner of this house, from the moment he leaves until he enters his house. When he disappears, only Allah knows. Indeed, the fortunate ones among the companions of Muhammad ﷺ know that he is one of their closest means to Allah on the Day of Resurrection."

كُنَّا عِنْدَ حُذَيْفَةَ بِحِذَاءِ دَارِ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَقَالَ «مَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَشْبَهُ دَلًّا وَلَا سَمْتًا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ صَاحِبِ هَذِهِ الدَّارِ مِنْ حِينِ يَخْرُجُ حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ مَنْزِلَهُ فَإِذَا تَوَارَى فَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْظُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ أَنَّهُ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ وَسِيلَةً إِلَى اللهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»
