ذِكْرُ الزَّجْرِ عَنْ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَ الْمَرْءُ مَمَالِيكَهُ أَسَامِيَ مَعْلُومَةً

ibnhibban:5837 – al-Faḍl b. al-Ḥubāb > Muḥammad b. Kathīr > Sufyān > Salamah b. Kuhayl > Hilāl b. Yasāf > Samurah b. Jundub

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not call your servant successful, nor skilled, nor profitable, nor left-handed, and be careful not to increase them."  

ابن حبّان:٥٨٣٧ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تُسَمِّ عَبْدَكَ أَفْلَحَ وَلَا نَجِيحًا وَلَا رَبَاحًا وَلَا يَسَارًا وَانْظُرُوا أَنْ لَا تَزِيدُوا عَلَيْهِ»

Do not call your servant Yasar (wealth), Rabah (profit), Nijih(prosperous) and Aflah (successful), for you may ask; Is he there? And someone says: No. Samurah said: These are four (names), so do not attribute more to me. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4958)   

ابن حبّان:٥٨٣٨ – أَخْبَرَنَا مَكْحُولٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْكُزْبُرَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جُحَادَةَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ عُمَيْلَةَ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تُسَمِّيَنَّ غُلَامَكَ رَبَاحًا وَلَا نَجِيحًا وَلَا يَسَارًا وَلَا أَفْلَحَ إِنَّمَا هِيَ أَرْبَعٌ فَلَا تَزِيدُوا عَلَيْهِ»

الطبراني:٦٧٩٤ – حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الرَّقِّيُّ ثنا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ الْمُقْعَدُ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُحَادَةَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ عُمَيْلَةَ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ
