ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ بَعْدَ هَذَا الْأَمْرِ زَجَرَ عَنْ قَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ إِلَّا جِنْسًا مِنْهَا

ibnhibban:5651 – ʿAbdullāh b. Aḥmad b. Mūsá Biʿaskar Mukram > ʿAmr b. ʿAlī b. Baḥr > Abū ʿĀṣim > Ibn Jurayj > Abū al-Zubayr > Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh

The Prophet of Allah ﷺ ordered to kill dogs, and we were even killing a dog which a woman brought with her from the desert. Afterwards he forbade to kill them, saying: Confine yourselves to the type which is black. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2846)   

ابن حبّان:٥٦٥١ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُوسَى بِعَسْكَرِ مُكْرَمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَحْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ حَتَّى إِنْ كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تَقْدُمُ مِنَ الْبَادِيَةِ بِالْكَلْبِ فَتَقْتُلُهُ ثُمَّ نَهَانَا عَنْ قَتْلِهَا وَقَالَ «عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْأَسْوَدِ ذِي النُّقْطَتَيْنِ فَإِنَّهُ شَيْطَانٌ»

Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to kill dogs, and we carried out this order so much so that we also kill the dog coming with a woman from the desert. Then Allah's Apostle ﷺ forbade their killing. He (the Prophet further) said: It is your duty the jet-black (dog) having two spots (on the eyes), for it is a devil.
